Indians donate K10,000 to Chesire Homes
By DAVID KAPI
THE Indian Association of Papua New Guinea last week donated K10,000 to Cheshire Homes for maintenance and to help complete renovations that are currently in progress at its base at Hohola.
Cheshire Homes PNG is a branch of the British -based Cheshire Homes , a non-governmental organisation, which feeds, clothes and houses persons with disabilities and also provides education and health services to them.
Sanjay Shah, president of the Indian Association PNG and committee member Dr Lekshmi Pillai presented the cheque to Solo Damena, administrator of Cheshire Homes PNG, saying the association was proud to give to people with disabilities and children to help them be normal like any other human being.
“The aim of Indian Association is for everyone to have a better life, and we, as the part of the PNG community will continue to help in any way we can,” Mr Shah said.
Mr Damena thanked the association for their response and the donation.
He said the money would be used transparently.
The Indian Association of PNG was established 27 years ago to foster relationship between PNG citizens and the Indian community residing in the country in order to help the community in times of natural disaster, famine and any other worthy causes.

I had a chance to visit cheshire home one time, it was a humbling experience. Infact it was an experience of a life time, a chance to take a deep breath and reflect on the preciousness of time, the chance to enjoy the simple experiences of life, talking, walking, playing a game of backyard soccer or having a bbq with family, basically having fun in the big open world.

That brought to mind a very able disable person, his name is Stephen Hawkings, and I might add is distiguish Lucasian Professor of Mathematics chair formally held in 1669 by Isaac Newton and now Stephen Hawkings.

Hawkings has a disease call Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), sometimes called Lou Gehrig's disease. It is a diseases that affects the nerves cells that control voluntary muscles, Hawkings lost his ability to move his arms, legs, and body. By the age of 30 he was unable to feed himself...but by the age of 50 he holds the most distiguish chair in the scientific world in Cambridge University.

My point is that even though this kids may have disablities, their minds are sharper, even more sharper than the average fully functional humans. Assistance are just what they need to reach their dreams.
