PNG set on course for construction boom??March 12 2007 at 3:18 PM No score for this post | kolwan (no login) |
| According to analyst and business experts, this years construction activity or those that are about to startup between lae and pom is greater than the total building activity in the previous decade.
In addition to that, the announcement of 2 5-star hotels...1st anouncement was by a South Korean group for a hotel at a value of K100m with a casino facility for high rollers located at the 4mile end of the waigani road (Former works transport pool just infront of big roaster)...I hear that talks are also underway to have south korean airline fly to Pom on a regular basis.
The 2nd announce came within days of the first...this was from the Kumul Hotels group to construct a 5star at a tune of K150m within the grounds of Holiday inn. This announcement was back by US parter InterContinental Hotel Groups.
Along with hotel construction is the planned construction of Steamships corporate head. Steamships this year have announced a net profit of K50m where profits from property have double compared to lastyear and from hotels increase by 50%.
On the traffic side, within four years vehicles on the road have increased by three to fourfolds, the city played host to major international conferences and Last years tourism grew by 12%...these are all positive growths.. And special mention to Kokoda trail run making a big impact on the tourism market with the advertistment of the toughest race on earth. The record held by a local who ran the trail in 19hrs slashing it by 2hrs.
I think all this are positive indicators...we just hope elections go well. And somare doesn't spoil it with the K100m election gimmick.
cheers

It is just a general observation I would like to comment on.
I personally think that the Opening of Deloitte tower has made an impact on people's attitude, especially in the cleanliness and dressing category. Before deloittes, people dressed shabby and carelessly, now, you can feel the atmosphere of work, time and commitment through dressing. Work output is another story but at least there is a general improvement.
Just a saying "Human nature always adapt subconsciously to suit its environment"

Is that so? Alright, this is interesting and news for some of us. No wonder, the population that work in and around the downtown are always up to date with the dressing style. I am not saying it does not happen in the other parts of the city.
This is another good year for the country and if this gets better each year, then we all have something to look forward to. |

QE2 visit a Success
THE ash covered township of Rabaul - once hailed the Pearl of the Pacific - came alive on March 1, following the arrival of MV Queen Elizabeth 2. Some 2000 tourists were given tours of the town and its rich history while the shores of the picturesque Simpson Harbour was bustling wih activity as tourists snapped up Papua New Guinea souveniers of arts and crafts including carvings and bilums (traditional string bags). Traditional groups were also organised by local tour operator Paivu Tours to provide cultural entertainment for the tourists.

A few positives news, but like someone correctly mentioned, Law and order is priority.
Basic principles like honesty and integrity are missing in PNG working culture. |
