A woman who siphoned more than $370,000 from an 82-year-old dementia sufferer has been jailed for five years.
Fiji-born Shanta Mani Naidu, 52, a mother-of-three from Regents Park in Brisbane's south, was on Wednesday sentenced in the Brisbane District Court to five years in jail, with no recommendation for parole.
She was convicted of fraud by a jury last month, but her lawyers had asked for a delay in sentencing while a psychological report was compiled.
The court heard Naidu was introduced to James Macfarlane after he suffered a stroke.
In 2002, Mr Macfarlane signed over his power of attorney to Naidu and in April that year she began transferring money from his accounts to her own.
She spent the money on luxuries including international travel, entertainment, computers, alcohol and a $50,000 vehicle.
Qld Police seized the car worth 50.000 dollars and will sell it and return the funds to the victims family, I think she should stay in jail for five years then kick her arse back to fiji where life would not be so good for her. She needs to suffer just like her victim suffers.
