Medical use of Marijuana

Jace, if you check wikipedia, they say Marijuana has been used as a herbal medicine in the past. Currently, there is no established or approved usage yet, apart from the illegal (or legal in some countries) uses. However, alot of clinical (hospital) and lab research (using rats) are going on. Some say, it is quiet an effective anti-emetic (a drug that stops you from vomiting or from having the feeling of vomiting).

Current clinical research are difficult because of the legal issues. The main psychoactive (acting on the brain) substance in marijuana is tetrahydrocannabinol.

Thankz!

WNM

This week US raper, Snop Doggy Dog was put on a 5 year good behavior bond for possessing marijuana.

His lawer argued that he was taking marijuana for medicinal purposes! And legally he has be allowed to continue somking. So, I guess if you have a smart lawer you can smoke marijuana in PNG PLUS a medical reason (probably a psychiatrist) why you need it.

Medicinal value of Cannibis.

Just a thought,
I read somewhere ages ago that Marihuana was being used in the treatment of AIDS.

There is anecdotal evidence to suggest that it stimlates the appetite. Therefore people who are very ill with AIDS find it beneficial. By causing them to eat, it increases their resistance. I don't know of any scientific studies,(Double blind tests et al) to back this up. I also don't know by which means they injested it. ie. Smoking or eating, or whatever. It may also be the "placebo effect", if you feel better, you are better. Especially in terminal illnesses.

Regards......Ralph

Wonder whether actually the weight loss is due to a mechanism that may increase the Basal metabolic rate and so consume more energy.

Interestingly I read the other day a book about the crusades where assassins murdered many crusader knights by stealth. These assassins were followers of a sect of Islam (Ismaili) led by their leader called Hassan ibn Sabah who drugged themselves with hashish (a derivative of cannabis) and whilst in a drugged stupor went off into battle or killed by stealth hence the derivation of the word "assassin" in the English language.

Cocaine chewing in the Andes I gather was widespread among the poor peasant population to ward off the pangs of hunger.

Research needed

No score for this post

Interesting,
it is obvious that much more research is need on Marihuana. However, as it is a proscibed substance, that is probably unlikely.

One effect I noticed in the engineering field, that may be of interest. If one of your Fitters and Turners smokes Marihuana, that seems to be the end of him for days. If, for instance, he is operating a lathe, it is impossible to get any fine accurate work done by him.

Either smoking Marihuana causes impairment of the fine motor skills necessary, or it ruins the ability to concentrate. By comparison, if a Fitter has a night out on the grog, he is fairly useless in the morning, but usually OK after lunch.

The other thought is, that our Marihuana users drink alcohol as well, at the sanme time. Maybe the mixture causes different effects. If you note: Societies that use alcohol, usually ban Marihuana. Whilst societies who use Hash, normally ban alcohol.

I wonder if there is some problem with mixing alcohol and Marihuana. I can remember when it was scientifically proven, that mixing amphetamines and alcohol killed you. Before that, people wondered what killed some people who were using amphetamines. I think they attributed it to an overdose or something.

Regards......Ralph.

What I have heard about this

Ok I have heard that smoking Marijuana is good for your lungs ( probably an addict with wishful thinking)

Ralf your correct there is an affect of smoking this stuff and that is the munchies, it is said that Smoking causes a rather sudden drop in the BSL ( blood sugar level ) and therefor the body craves to eat to get the BSL levels back up, a smoker of this stuff will tell you the urge to eat is strong but to resist it as eating when having the munchies returns the BSL to normal and hence that stoned feeling is also gone, leaving the smoker with the desire to smoke more.

On a more serious note this drug after continued regular use can cause pshycotic behaviour with paranoia.

My advice GET HIGH ON LIFE
