Colleagues, I read some months back that Tom cruise was going to eat Katie Holmes placenta after she gives birth. The question I had in mind was, "is the placenta(afterbirth) edible?" eeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww....

Some cultures in the world actually do eat the placenta.
Animals in nature do eat their own placenta after giving birth. It's rich in iron and other nutrients. Makes sense for animals, after loosing a lot of blood, you want to get an iron rich meal so that you body can make more RBCs.

Bro, it is understandable for the animals.. I wonder which culture practises that. I hope not in PNG , because indirectly that is an act of cannibalism. Oh and the placenta itself does not look attractive though. Who would want to eat something that looks like that. Na sapos eating the placenta is practised in the western cultures, they better think twice before calling New Guineans cannibals.

susa, the thought of it is just too gross..lol..not a pleasant sight too, and yes, it is cannibalism..am not looking forward to putting off kids till later coz I might go under the docs blade so might as well work on it when the clock is still ticking..lol.

First how awesome is our creator, every birth a miracle in its own right! I also add that with dial up not broadband that took about as long as a SVD to watch LOL, but was worth watching it. Having said how wonderful it all is I have to add its a lot of hard work and sweat but worth every bit of it. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to all the mums out there ...
