A love of mine.
One of the teachings I remember is that the traveller (spiritual) learns to live amongst humanity only in body (I think that means grounded) while heart keeps away from humaity and is 'melted' into The Beloved.
Poetically I loved this idea, yet to keep aloof? Is this what the earthly experience is about. I just could not accept that. Yet to NOT be aloof, to make the heart vulnerable is too painful. Too painful by far.
Yet again Sufism also teaches to never let hopelessness stop us from trying for peace always.
