I hiked the Dickenson Lake @ Seven Lakes SP this morning. Crisp, Spring day . . . 38*F, blue sky, a bit gusty. I liked the beginning and the end of the loop, but found the middle very confusing.
I ran into issues as I approached the southeast edge of the lake. It seemed like the trail just ended in the backyards of a few houses. Someone let their dogs out (I assume because I was too close to their backyard). I bushed whacked and ended up out in the peninsula on the south edge (I believe that is Dickenson rd). Retraced my steps and ended up in another backyard (right by a shed). Dropped down in the woods again and bushwhacked to Catbird Lake. I think I might have been on the "old" trail.
I found the "new" trail and decided to backtrack to determine if I could figure out where I lost the trail (I am stubborn like that). I ended up in another backyard. It was almost like they cut back the brush to expand their yard and the trail disappeared. Gave up, circled back around the small pond and made my way back along the westside the of lake (quite nice) to finish the loop.
My question - anyone else have this problem? Did I just miss the spur?
BTW - I used a new hiking app on my Iphone today (mapmyhike) and it worked very well . . .just sucks batteries.
