I wear wool socks, and they last forever, but they do eventually get holes at wear points. In the last few days, I have taught myself to darn socks! At $18 or so a pair, it's definitely worthwhile! I'm not good at it yet, but the darns are nice and smooth, took only a few minutes and I'm satisfied with my first two efforts...plus they will never show. (I mentioned this at pinochle yesterday and one of my pals revealed that she knows how to darn--so next time, I'll have her help me so I get it right). I used a hardboiled egg instead of a wooden darning egg, which I don't have. The right rock would have worked, too, and I have plenty of those, but they are all covered up with snow, LOL.
