Response to Polly, an English court question

The outfit you describe is probably only for high court,not the general magistrate court( in most towns for general small crime) There is also a middle level court called County court, where I expect they get dressed up as well, along with the curly wig. The fleece bit is probably to represent fur

You will be pleased to hear I don't have a lot of experience with courts ( well, none actually) and only know what I've learnt from TV
