Add enough water to thin it out to pancake batter consistency. Add some salt if there's not any in the mix. I like chopped onion in mine, too. Heat some oil in the skillet and drop spponfuls in the hot oil. Basiclaly the same as making pancakes but w/ cornmeal, LOL. Yum! Really great w/ beans, turnip greens (the only greens I like) or fried fish, but I can eat it w/ anything.
Growing up, this was the only kind of cornbread I knew. Never heard of or saw corn muffins or baked cornbread until I went to the K&W cafeteria for the first time around age 10 or so.

I have never added oil to the batter like she talks about, though.
