Response to Are you decluttering?

I know they don't count as clutter, but it sure feels good to start cleaning up the yard. I never got to the back at all last year, so I'm concentrating on digging all of the nasty perennial weeds out of the flower beds, such as cinquefoil and knapweed. Also that fuzzy one that looks like a wild foxglove. It is a lot of work, but it's beginning to look better already.

Mr. Lincoln has been assassinated! I planted a Mr. Lincoln rose when we first moved here, 14 years ago. It died a few years ago, but some wild and wacky stems came up from below the graft. It would "bite" you every time you walked by. I tried to dig it out a few years ago, but half got left behind, and the wild, wackiness continued unabated. Today I cut it down to the ground, dug down the best I could, and pulled it out with a broken tow chain and the truck. Looks like I got it this time!

I'm going to look for another rose to put in its place. Something that comes up from the roots and isn't grafted. Something that thrives on neglect, because that's what it will get from me!
