The husband in our first batch of company last week is from North Carolina, too. He also puts the sugar in the hot tea. Poor guy--the only way he got sweet tea here was to mix sugar into the cold tea. Although the Southern folks here might disagree, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, unless the sugar didn't dissolve. I had a friend from Alabama who insisted on making her tea in a specific pot.
