We have our 2 year old Havanese because our dil rescued her when the breeder brought her in to the office because one of her back paws had been chewed off by the momma.
Lopsy was not feeling well Wednesday when we got up, and I was suspicious she had gotten a hold of a chicken bone, ... a whole leg bone plus in her stomach when xrayed, we have no idea how she got ahold of them, but she obviously gulped them whole (she knows we'd of taken them from her if we'd seen her with them). 48 hours of close observation, and pain meds, showed the bones were dissolving and being passed, and she was feeling better, but the xrays revealed an enlarged heart and we were absorbing the need to change her diet/treats...
Friday when we brought her home from the Vet office, she could not walk or stand on her back legs - she was paralized in the hind quarters - with a slipped disc.
Lopsy is now on muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatory medications and pain meds, getting physical therapy 3 times a day, swim therapy, and massage therapy and she is making progress.
My dog is being taken care of better than most of us when we have back problems.
