It hasn't been mentioned lately, and I'm wondering if there is still interest. If there is, I want to make my reservations now--before the prices go up! If there are even 4 or 5 other people, I'm still up for it.
Right now, I can't get a ticket for under $500...most are bumping into the $600 range, even when I'm uber flexible about flight times (welcome to the world of living with a hub airline in your hometown). My upper limit for a ticket would be in the $300 range. Even with an airline voucher for taking a bump flight last year, the airline tickets are still too expensive for a three day trip.

Frontier

I have miles on Frontier so I checked to see if I could fly in on a really early flight and fly back the same day, but the flights don't work out. Bummer. I think that would have been fun.
...fly in on Saturday and leave on that early, early flight on Sunday. I know it is not a same-day deal, but when you figure how whipped you are when you get in on a late flight, it might not be much worse physically. And, if Adele were staying home with Dad, she'd be asleep most of the extra time.
Minneapolis is a "hub" city for Northwest Airlines. The plus of this is that I can fly non-stop to a LOT of places. The minus to this is that, with Northwest having 85% of the flight business out of here, pricing is not at all competitive. The only "cheap" tickets to be had are on routes where the other airlines compete on the route. I can fly to Dallas, Miami, and Denver for cheap but Nashville is $600!
They post the fares (including Southwest) that are the best of the day for your city to wherever. I noticed on my Nashville one today there is one from Spokane for $244 RT.
It's probably a 3 a.m. flight on Frontier with a 19-hour layover in Denver, but who knows...I might get lucky! Actually, I think that's the price of the flights I was looking at BEFORE the taxes are added in. I just hate it that they don't advertise the fare at the price it is actually going to cost. Taxes are A LOT.
but I am planning to drive instead of fly, flight from here to there is over $400, or I could drive half way and have no car when I get there, for $250 - it's an 8 hour drive, but I still think that's my best deal.
but I won't be coming. The date change didn't work for me. The weekend you are going is the mini-marathon I will be walking in, as well as my 17th wedding anniversary.
This fall I'm invited to 3 school reunions, a Japan-missionary one, plus the Frugalistapolooza get-together. All five sound good, but I have limited time/ energy/ travel $.
My top priority: flying out to visit my son, d-i-l, and granddaughter!! o I just got a decent ticket on cheaptickets.com

Yes, I realize I'm shouting. As much as I'd like to see Bev and Tammy again, and meet Glenda and maybe Darcy, I'm probably not going to buy an airline ticket if there are just going to be those few of us. Several people said earlier that they might drive. Those people haven't weighed in here. If you were planning to come, or were a strong maybe, please post whether OR NOT you will be there. (A maybe is still OK). Thanks a lot!

sorry!

I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier. I was still considering and trying to decide if I could swing it, and then we went on vacation for a week and got back tonight. I was hoping to drive but I'm trying to save x per month for a looming bathroom remodel and my inlaws are planning on being away now. I was hoping to have ds stay with them a couple of the days when dh will be working.
I REALLY want to, but I just can't find a way to justify the expense right now. Not to mention, I have no idea where the money would come from! What category in my budget to steal from.
a few unexpected expenses, combined with several weeks I'm taking off over the next couple months, to babysit for the grands while the daycare is closed, and such, are eating away at my get away stash - so unless an unexpected windfall comes my way, I'm not going to be able to make it.
If the time comes, and I have my stash resupplied to a healthy level, I will reconsider - I'd love to meet everyone, but I don't want you relying on my being there.
It's just too up in the air for too many people, and too many have decided they aren't coming. I'd love to go to Nashville, and I do want to meet as many of you as I can, but I can't justify it if only Tammy and Bev are going to be there (and that's because they both live there). Maybe we can make this thing work next year.
I'm actually thinking of taking a part time job I've been offered, so don't know what that will do to my vacation time, but I am going to start saving for it just in case.
but I'm wondering if we voted again, if the where would change - I'm thinking somewhere that's a major airline hub might be a good idea.... Atlanta, Denver, Chicago, St Louis, ...???
