Long Wearing lipsticks?

I like to wear lip stick, I just want one that lasts a long time. I used to have a Lancome one that was almost like a stain for your lips, it was neat but $$$. But now I see a lot of the lower priced products (Revlon, cover girl, mayballine) coming out with products they say do the same. I have tried a few and not been impressed... But it has been a while and I know this is a product they are all trying to market.

Anyone have any good advice or recomendation on this? I really don't want to spend lots of money trying all differnt things (NOT frugal). I pretty much know my colors, just want something that will stay on for hours and also can't leave my lips feeling strange. Sadly I was disapinted with the Clinique version of this- it just did nto hold up...

Do you have Rite-Aid drugstores in your area?

They will allow you to return any cosmetic for any reason...even if you just don't like the color. This might be a way to try different brands.

I'll tell you the secret.....

July 25 2008, 5:33 PM

When I worked outside the home, I kept liptick on all day long. We had a lot of meetings in our district where women came from several counties. It would freak them out that after lunch, I'd still have on liptick. We'd all be in the bathroom and I was the only one not re-applying lipstick. In fact, they didn't believe me when I told them that I hadn't put any more on all day. They even watched me one day all day long to make sure. LOL

Here's what you do. First, I think you do have to buy pretty good quality liptick. I normally wear whatever Clinique givex in their bonus if it is a shade I like. Or, I've worn Revlon or some other decent brand. Apply your liptick. Then barely blot with a tissue. Get your powder puff and powder OVER your lipstick with loose powder.

Now, here is the VERY important part. Don't lick your lips. Trust me, the powder will go away in a minute. But the biggest secret of all is to make it a habit to NOT lick your lips all day. This is hard. And you have to make it a habit.

I told the women this. They all tried it. It worked for all of them.

Since half the time I don't wear makeup since I'm normally at home, I've gotten out of the habit. But try it.

Remember, don't lick your lips.

Tammy

Thanks but I am gonna try some of that long wearing stuff too because I tend to like dark colors and when they wear off the center of your lips they leave that awful look, ya know?

I use the Cover Girl brand

I think the secret is to apply the color portion VERY thinly. Put on a very small amount. If you put a lot on it seems to be sticky.

And I wait a little bit between the color and the gloss to allow the color to dry.

I must be a lip licker because regular lipstick doesn't last even an hour with me. But I am not conscious of licking my lips. Who know?

Revlon Colorstay and lipliner

Not the one w/ the attached gloss, just the regular old kind. Line your lips and then fil in the whole lip w/ the liner as a base, preferably using the Revlon Colorstay lipliner. Most of the time I just use the Nude color, so there's no need to try and match it to the lipstick color. Then apply the Colorstay lipstick and let dry. Sometimes I put on a second coat if it's a lighter color. This results in a matte lip, not shiny at all. Very important - do NOT put anything else on top, no gloss, no nothing! Anything on top breaks the chemical bond and then it's just like regular lipstick. I read this in a wedding makeup article. Mine wasn't staying put, and it was because I was applying a lipgloss over the top. If you don't do much eating and drinking during the day/night, this should get you through the day/night. I usually just dab a little in the middle of my lip after lunch because I am contstantly drinking water through a straw at my desk.

I bought the Colorstay w/ the attached gloss once. About 15 minutes after the gloss went on, it was like I had grainy sand all over my lips - yuck! I have tried it several times just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, and it happens every time.

Supposedly the new formulation of the Cover Girl Outlast works well. I haven't bought it because I used the old one and hated it. Maybe I will break down and try it. Right now for the summer, though, I've just been doing the lip liner all over the lips and just using colored gloss. Doesn't last all day, but that's OK.
