I think we have in the past and I did a search but there was a lot of results so thought I would start a new one. We are probably going to be buying a set soon. I have decided I don't want the memory foam for various reasons. Do you have any recommendations from mattresses you have bought? Brand and type?

We just bought a Sterns and Foster

It's only been a couple of months but it is soooo nice. I would just say go to the stores and lay on some. Take your dh and have him toss and turn and see if that pulls you off your side, that sort of thing.

Oh & I may have a $50 off coupon for Sleep Experts if you want it. I may have thrown them away but I'll look.

I bought a Simmons Beautyrest awhile back

They have those individual wrapped coils so you don't feel the movement as much on the other side of the bed. Works great for not knocking off my TV remote when I move around happy.gif.

Only think I don't really like is the pillowtop. It's already smooshed down some, and you can't flip the mattress because of it. I will never have a pillowtop again if I can help it.

Simmons is one of the top rated brands, and I feel like I got a good deal (queensize mattress and box spring in the low $700's; cna't recall the exact amount offhand).

We have a Beautyrest

I liked it for a long time. We paid 800+ for it about 8 years ago. The poofy top is getting squishy for the past few months and I can feel the springs under it. DH doesn't have that problem and calls me the princess pea... he thinks he is funny. I am ready for a replacement and I doubt I will get a puffy top again.

I'm with you, Lisa! I've had Serta mattresses since I was 2, and we bought our most recent one 4 years ago. It's the first (and hopefully last) pillowtop I've had, and I don't care for that aspect. Other than that, I still love my Serta.

Used to have a Beautyrest

and loved it for many years. It was not a pillow top- just a regualr one... I LOVED that thing... had it for 12 or 13 years... I replaced it when it was old, with an Ikea Hassleback Sultan(?) matress that I hate... at less then a year old it showed a "dent in the middle". I contacted them and the dent was not deep enough for them to cover under the one year warranty... well now it is 18 months old, no longer covered by the warranty and that dent is now noticable... I am just not happy with this mattress and will, sooner then later, be replacing it, with most likely another Beautyrest.

I don't think the brand matters

It's how far you go up the line. A bottom-of-the-line mattress won't last long and may not be all that comfortable, regardless of brand. A top-grade mattress will be good whether it's Sealy, Simmons, Serta, Stearns & Foster, or any other name brand.

For VALUE, it's hard to beat the Sealy mattresses at Costco. However, I just paid about $2,000 for the Garden Sleep System, and there is no comparison. Still...my Costco mattress wasn't bad. Just ask my son, he's sleeping on it now!

I have never had anything as comfortable as that Beauty Rest....

We do have one fo those Costco mattresses and I think if you like firm/non pillow tops then you can get away with those. Right now my son has it, but he will often say it is uncomfortable. I'm thinking I may get a new one (down the road) for me and give him the IKEA one, see if he likes that any better.
