There is a problem with this year's crop of tomato plants. They have a virus that can spread and destoy the plantcrop. It's the same as the potato famine virus and can spread to potato crops too. Apparently it is on the east coast right now and is very, very serious. Check your tomato plants for brown spots on the stems and also on the leaves with white patches under the leaves. Check your potato plants too. If it appears, destroy the plants by burning them.

Most of my tomatoes came from a big box store and some of them look funny. sigh I need to go check them all.
