I don't know if this is frugal, but...

I'm seeing a career counsellor tomorrow about a second job or maybe a first job and my current job will be my second job. Either way they are going to (hopefully?)counsel me into something that pays the bills.

Let us know how it goes. I think it counts as frugal, but even if it didn't we'd all want to hear about it anyway!

That's a good idea. I hope they give you a lot of tips

If I ever feel better, I want to get a job, but I'm afraid I'm not very marketable.

they can point you to jobs you might never think of otherwise and some companies only hire through them anyway.

Day One...

June 1 2011, 5:13 PM

I met with the career counsellor for an hour. She signed me for all the classes - they are free (i.e. funded by the government) so the first one is tomorrow. That is for people who are looking for a second career so I think I'll get a lot out of it.

I made an appointment to review my file at work, got copies of all of my training sheets and a certificate for the Team Co-ordinator training. I also lined up three excellent work references.

The counsellor seemed pretty positive about the current job environment. She said things are picking up and they have a lot of businesses calling and looking for the perfect person. I want to be the perfect person, but I also realize that I have no education and a wide variety of skills.

I said I would love to do some job shadowing or something, too. I don't want to just dive into a job, but want to set something up that will be long term.

Day two

June 2 2011, 8:14 PM

It turns out that I'm ideally suited for the job I've already got... which is great but really discouraging because I want to do something else. Something that isn't dependent on Government funding would be my first choice.
