Dumb question I know ... I keep getting these $10 "gifts because we remodeled your store" from Kohl's in my email. I was going to start using them to get some white towels (white so they can be bleached). Right now, the bath towels are on sale for $8.99. The washcloths are on sale for $5.99!!! I bought a nice 8-pk of white washcloths from Penneys on sale awhile back for like $10. As long as everything's white, that will be fine, right? the washcloths are going to be rolled up in a basket anyway, not displayed w/ the towels.
My towels are all different colors as are my washcloths. Its not really important to me and they live under the bathroom sink cupboard so no one sees them anyways
Also, do you know that is the only one on sale? I have found that there is usually at least one brand on sale, and it isn't always in the ad.
All of mine at the cabin are white and "more or less" match, although they are several different brands. All of the ones at home are varying shades and patterns of blue.
I don't know which ones I'm getting yet. Not all of them come in white, so I need to see what's availaible in the store. They ahve some that are supposedly quick drying, and they ahve soemthat supposedly don't stain form mkaeup or face medications, so I'm goign to look at them. I have to see how soft they are before buying, so I won't order online anyway.

I got a nice pack of white washclothes from Costco. They have washed up well and I really like them. Nothing stays white for very long at our house with our well water.
I have two different shades of green towels, a pair of ecru towels, and a gray towel. The green ones came in a set, so also has two hand-towels and two washclothes.
My sheets are tan, both the normal and the flannel. My comforter is pink. I do have a green bedspread that I use when it's not cold enough for the down pink comforter.

My washcloths have outlasted my towels. I've replaced all my ratty burgundy towels with white or beige, but the burgundy washcloths are still going strong. A nice thing about them is they hide bloodstains well, so if ds has a nosebleed I give one to him and don't worry about it. No one but family sees them anyway.

They used to.

Seven years ago when we bought this house, we threw out all the old ratty ones and bought all new matching ones. Over the years some have come, some have gone, it's quite the hodgepodge.

I don't

Ds does, in the bathtub but not the shower. I use one if I want to wash just my face or if I feel like my skin needs exfoliating. That's about it. That's why they've long outlasted my towels.
When Bath and Body Works became the fad, I started using the poufs. Recently, I have switched back to washcloths. I have noticed I use less body was now.
we color code (per person) here and then anything else is what I find at the thrift shop/salvage store/super low price clearance.... My color is purple- I have 2 purple bath sheets. Ds1 is blue, Ds2 is green and DD is pink. My kids are slobs with hand towels and I have lots of those because they seem to get changed every day- I have lavender, bright blue, hot pink, lime green..... and wash cloths are all different... some are Tinkerbelle- got DD a set of 8 on clearance 2 years ago for like $2, so we use those a lot, and I have some nice thick multicolored ones from Bed Bath and Beyond clearance, $.99 each and I have tub mats in white, pink and turquise...
It's all very eclectic... pink/purpl/blue/green seem to be kind of a running theme thru a lot of our rooms and the house tho... I have these 3 bright, ikea wall pictures up on the walls in the bathroom and I tell myself as long as the color is in that, then it "goes" ; )

yes, it's infectious

Best to just stay away from them!
I've been trying to choose a paint color for the whole house interior and have narrowed it down to 4 or 5 paint chips. I showed them to dh and he said they were pretty much all the same color, so what difference did it make? Well, yes, they're all tan but one is a little more yellow, one is a little more pink, this one is a hair darker, etc. Then I realized he was right and I've been staring at paint chips too long. They're all close enough that it doesn't really matter. It's easy to get obsessed over things like that.
If you're looking for a good neutral, check out Nomadic Desert by Sherwin Williams. That's what I ahve in my LR (mixed in Valspar paint, not SW). No real undertone (no pink, green etc), just a good darker beige. My sister has the next color up on the strip, Kilim Beige. I like mine better .

the SW site is showing me a whole strip
June 20 2012, 6:44 AM
If I put in either of those color names it shows me a strip with 6 variations of the color, highlighting the one in the middle. If you move the mouse over a different square on the strip it still shows the same color name. So it's hard for me to tell which one you have. But the second or third square is very similar to what I've chosen. The color on my computer may not be true though.
I picked up a few of those folding cards with lots of paint chips from both Lowe's and Home Depot and I'm just having my painter take the chip I want to wherever he wants to get the paint and they'll match the color. I told him I usually use Behr, and he said that Behr is a good paint in general but it takes a very long time to dry when you're painting over oil-based primer. He is suggesting a specific kind from Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. Honestly, he can get it cheaper than I can and if I spend a little more per gallon on paint than I normally do I'm not going to sweat it. His spackling and painting estimate is very reasonable and I trust him.
Every chip or flooring sample I show to dh he says "that looks a little dark". But he always likes projects I've done after I finish them so I'm just going to choose what I want and go with it.

oh wait, I see what I did wrong

I was hovering over the squares and the name didn't change, but it changes when you click on the square. I like Nomadic Desert, but I also like Latte. It's a little bit darker.

Well....I actually think paint color is hugely important
June 20 2012, 10:23 AM
I think that it is worth getting obsessed over paint colors actually. That little bit of yellow or pink can really change how I feel about a color. That's why I always go with Benjamin Moore, so that I can buy the little paint samples and see what it actually looks like. Paint chips never work for me. The same paint can look so different from one room to the next as well. I spent a lot of time obsessing over paints and stains in our house, and I'm so glad that I did. I absolutely LOVE the colors I chose.
And those tv shows about buying and selling. Buyers now want so much, too much IMO, but since we hope to be doing this kitchen for the last time before we sell, I want to make it one of the coveted kitchens. All I am going to get is the same kitchen, without the worn, peeling cabinets and a nicer counter.

kitchens
June 20 2012, 9:49 AM
Our agent told us that many of her clients are very, very picky about everything. They not only want new kitchens with granite countertops and stainless appliances, they want the granite a certain color and the cabinets a specific wood. Many complain about paint colors and things that are very easy and inexpensive to change as well. Unless they have bottomless pockets, I can't imagine finding a home that meets every criteria. Even my sister complained about the gorgeous kitchen in her new house because the cabinets were maple and not cherry, and she thought the granite was too light. Excuse me, are we from the same family?
Our standards were never that high, but went down with just about every home we saw in our price range. We removed carpet from every room, are in the process of dealing with wallpaper on every wall and ceiling and putting in a half bath. In the kitchen we're adding a dishwasher, putting on a new countertop and reconfiguring the existing year old maple cabinets a little. We bought ceiling fans for the bedrooms and new fixtures for the dining room and halls. We're refinishing the upstairs wood floors and replacing them downstairs. We're thinking about having the siding painted. And amazingly, the estimates are coming in much lower than we expected and will be less than the increase in down payment we would have had to make with a "finished" house, not to mention how much lower the mortgage payment is. I think it will look nice when it's done, but not like a magazine. We've done that once but we're over it. Doing all this work is the only way we could afford something more than 1000sf.
I didn't know that selling was anywhere on the horizon for you.
