back to school shopping?

I know they are having good sales... but I am not buying much this year! I have to dig out the school supplies lists for both kids and see what I have in my stash then figure what I have to buy.... Hoping it is not much! Each kid needs sneakers, but I am getting those at Wal-Mart, my kids feet have been growing so fast I am not investing in good shoes- altho the foot Dr actually said (for DS)that the wal-mart Dr scholls sneakers were pretty good and only $30.... saw some cute ones there for DD for $12.

DS might need some jeans but I want to wait and see what happens with him by the time it is cool enough for that. For September they often end up wearing shorts.... My kids each have plenty of shirts.... DS chunks up, goes into Husy size for pants, then grows in height, so it seems like we go 12H then 14s, then 14Hs.... I'll glad socks while they are cheap- just bought them all new undies but if you kids need them, now is the time to buy....

well, at least the kid is finally growing, he needs clothes for school, and for work. just scrubbed axle grease off his best work pants, that was fun.

and the nearest place to buy clothes is two hours away!

not much-just not in the mood!

August 7 2012, 5:25 AM

Maybe I don't want summer to end?
I did get some crayons/glue sticks some to donate to a drive at church and some for us.
Some unique items from last year's list were "earbuds/headphones" for computer lab and flash drive. Each teacher gives a list on first day of school so that's when you find out exactly.
I did like how DS first grade teacher last year gave you the list but most of it she would just ask for in waves throughout the year. So you could buy it when it was onsale and then send in as she needed such as kleenex/sanitizing wipes/crayons.

Lots of good deals on school supplies

August 7 2012, 7:06 AM

Of course, my kids have been out of school for 15 years...but I made a Staples list of supplies that I'll buy and use at home. Five Sharpies for $1! Should last me 5 years. Some hellacious deals on computer paper, although I bought about a 5 year supply of that last year. You can't beat one cent for a ream1

All I've bought

Is some stuff for the school supply drive at church.  I don't need to stock up at home, and no kids in school.

Thank Goodness for Catholic School Uniforms!

August 7 2012, 8:59 AM

and the school's consignment sale! as long as each kid has two fall/spring uniforms and two winter uniforms, I'm golden. another year or two and the little one won't ever need anything bc of hand me downs.

I can't imagine having to outfit them with real clothes and face fashion errors or "you just wore that last month" ridicule! (my lack of "socially appropriate" clothing did an awful lot of damage in my formative years!)

I'll deal with socks and underpants next week at the outlets. and shoes for the girl and middle. just remind me not to go to Bass. Buy one get two is a good deal (usually spend about $50-$60 for three pairs of shoes) but they fall apart faster than Payless $10 crap!

Supplies - DH had kohl's cash and got the boys new backpacks (though the little didn't need one) and the little one new shoes. DH'll pick up all they need over the next week or two, or do a big trip next week when me and the kids are on vacation. I'm lucky and grateful that I don't have to deal with this!!

Undies

August 7 2012, 9:27 AM

I don't know if the Target ad is the same all over the country...but Target has good prices on Hanes undies, and most of the packages have 1-2 pair extra; PLUS they will give you $5 back at the register this week if you buy 3 packages. I would think that would beat outlet prices.

depends - last time

August 7 2012, 1:20 PM

i had $25 off purchase of $50 or more, it's always buy 3 packs get one, and i also had a $25 "gift card" and got irregulars.

I think i got 12 packs of socks and 6 packs of unders for less than $30. (it was a few years ago so the details are fuzzy!)

I'm sure I posted about it though!

EDITED TO ADD THE TEXT FROM MY DEC 2010 POST ABOUT IT!!! LMAO BC it HAS been two years and we've only bought each boy a pack of socks in that time (and some 25 cent clearence unders for me - well and DH buys clearance dress socks at kohl's like they're free - bc they practicaly are!) in july this year I got three maidenform outlet bras for $24 off the clearence rack bc they discontinued my style!

(2) 6 packs ladies underwear
(1) 3 pack "fancy" ladies underwear
(2) 6 packs kids underwear
(2) 6 packs kids socks
(1) 6 pack ladies crew socks
(1) 10 pack knee hi's

Full retail: $63, paid $26 with sale and Coupon.

I also got two bras for $40 at Maidenform, full retail $66 - I cannot get $5 wal-mart bras because such a thing doesn't exist in my size.

I figure i won't need new underthings for two years!>

Good thing I have a job now.

August 7 2012, 2:47 PM

This has been expensive so far. Ds outgrew all his pants. My mom bought him some jeans, but I will not buy him any more until the end of September, or so. They wear shorts at first anyway. He is in high school, so I won't know what supplies he needs until after the first day of school. I do know his book/activity fees will be over $400 because of the photography class he is taking. I was prepared for this expense though.

DD needed clothes too and I have already purchased all her supplies. Now I just need to buy myself some more tops and bras and shoes and we will be ready to go.

ds and I did this yesterday

August 7 2012, 3:24 PM

The list of school supplies he needed was online. We usually have extra stuff on hand at home but this year our stash has dried up and we spent about $20 for everything on his list.

He tried on all his jeans and pants and weeded out too small items. We donated several pair and put several pair in the grow-into box and he still has plenty of clothing. His backpack from last year is still in great condition and I found a new lunch box over the summer so I think he's set. I have brand new shoes in the next couple of sizes up that I've been buying at the thrift store over the last year so he'll have a new pair when he starts school. He's pretty hard on shoes so I try to get 2 pair in each size so they can be replaced partway through the year.

He doesn't start school until September but it's done and out of the way now.

All three have new school shoes and sneakers for $24.50

August 10 2012, 10:08 AM

dh paid $7 for the little guy after kohl's cash, and i picked up good school shoes for the other two at sal-val. apparently folks cleared out their closets while prepping for this school year bc both pairs didn't look to have ever been worn. The little just got clearance sneakers at the disney outlet in july, and the bigger boy still has two hand-me down pairs of nikes from a friend. The girl got $5 nike's "throw away sneakers for mud at camp" from sal-val also - they were brand new - um, in 1994 based on the style - someone cleaning out the inner depths of their closet! (she LOVES them - and there was no mud at camp!)

since i get ookey about used shoes - it was fantastic to find so many new ones for so cheap!

You did well!!!

August 10 2012, 7:23 PM

That reminds me I have $16 or something in kohls cash to use.... Maybe I can get one of the kids shoes with the $..... : ) Yeah, happy thought, since their dad apparently won't be giving me the back to school money he is suppose to, this year.

You did great.

Shoes made in 1994 may be better than ones made today so you may have gotten an even better deal.
