You can email me or post on here if interested.

I keep my horse at Newpark, I dont think anyone is attending to do the point to point at the yard but there are a couple of speedy's there (karen!) and a few of us who need to get our horses fit for hunter trials etc!!!

I know a few people that are reasonably close that will be doing the point to point. My daughter will be doing it again this year on her pony and i box her all over the place to train him so you could possibly ride out with her some times too. She frequently rides from Sway although the pony is in Beaulieu and he is pretty fast so shouldnt hold you up, he burns my 15.2 up easily, lol!!

Wow, that would be cool to train with someone. I need to get him qualified as he is not a registered forester, so lots of drifting is required- scary on my pony!!

Thanx Lisa - I've started to put owners to horses now, still haven't seen half of them lol!

I keep my horse at New Park (I'm the Karen mentioned in Claire's response) and am tempted to try the Point to Point this year. Last time I did it was over 20 years ago when it finished at Ashurst Campsite. Would like to get into drifting again as well.

Am always up for some speed training.

You could always go drag hunting with the New Forest hounds. I went last season and so did my daughter and it made a big difference to the ponies way of going. I only know the results of the childrens races but the 1st and 2nd in the older childrens races hunted last season and the 1st place in the younger kids race did too. You can qualify by hunting and getting your card stamped! You don't have to stand around a lot at hunting any more, it is really pretty fast now they are dragging and the bonus is you get fed and watered before hand, lol!!

That sounds good.
My pony is a bit of a speed freak so he has no trouble excelerating, but could do with being a bit fitter.

When and where do they drag hunt? Is it with the New Forest hounds?

I would definately be up for that if I can get to them.

Thanks Tx

The New Forest Hounds wont be dragging yet until the autumn but the full list of meets will be on their website closer to the time. They do do pub lunch rides on a tuesday through the summer. The next one is at Deerleap, opposite the Otter and Owl sancuary, at 11am this Tuesday. It is a nice ride and you get to meet some of the people that you'd be hunting with and it isnt a huge group that usually goes and is really friendly!
The hunting will definetly fitten your pony up for the P2P, especially if you do it regularly. Gone are the days of proper hunting when there was loads of hanging around getting cold; the hounds have become excellent at following a trail, so you do cover a hell of a lot of ground at speed now. Not everybody follows the hounds, some go from one trail to another a safer more sedate route, lol!! Unfortunately my horse doesnt give me the option, lol!
If you'd like, i can email you more info when i get it!

Forgot to mention that they hunt on tuesdays and Saturdays during the season.

Just realised who you are! You used to ride Hummy at Ipley. I am friends with Sharon and John with Sov. I have met you briefly at Ipley before when you were jumping Hummy in the field. Sharon said you used to hunt Hummy years ago, so you'll know what it is all about if you do it again. It is loads faster now apparently; i never hunted until last season so i don't personally know but laods of people have told me, lol!!

Yeah, I used to ride Hummy, she was great fun. Got a younger (livlier) pony now!

Haven't hunted for a while and have only been a few times, so not too familier with it all.

If you and your daughter want to do some training from New Park at anytime I ride most weekends in the afternoon and some weekdays after work. Otherwise my pony is riden during work time.

Just send an email and I'll let you know asap

Thanks Tam x

Tam,

I've just realised who you are. You keep Jute and Mouse at New Part, don't you? I am the Karen who owns Winnie and Smartie!!

Winnie's off at the moment with a splint, but as soon as she is up and running we should go out.

Will catch you at the stables....!

Karen
