We shall have fun next year deciding who's the daddy! When the other stallion comes to Woodgreen, he's also bay with a white blaze, so either it will have to be guesswork or DNA!
Sadly, same as it always has Mandy, random guesswork based on partially informed opinion
When I bought my now 2yr old forest bred filly as a 6 month old foal at Beaulieu Rd, she came not with a passport but a foal registration form for me to get a passport issued. I was surprised to see the name of the stallion as she looked nothing like him, not even remotely, so I rang the Agister and as soon as I told him her foaling month, and the district, and he could work out when her mum was covered, he immediately told me the name of another stallion who had moved into that area a month after the colts went out, that had driven off her 'nominated' sire. He new my filly and her dam and was positive this other stallion was her sire. That made sense as she was/is the spitting image of this 2nd stallion, more so every day as she grows, temperament as well as looks, so I wrote a letter (with the consent of her breeder) to send off with her passport application explaining all this and the Breed Society agreed to accept the agisters opinion (rightly I am sure). No one can ever be sure without DNA testing and that rarely gets done. Her breeder had just assumed the stallion listed for that district was her sire, and I suspect many other breeders do the same, in all innocence, especially if the district isn't on their doorstep and they aren't aware of the stallions having moved.

That's really interesting Tina. Thanks for taking the time to write. I seem to be learning something new about Foresters nearly every day by reading this website!
Pretty sure Warren Playaway is definitely Ozzie's dad as they look similar. Oz also looks very similar to quite a lot of other Playaway siblings from other birth years.
Speaking as a commoner who sells at B.Road,we take a lot of time and trouble watching at this time of year so as to be sure which stallion certain mares are running with.Random guesswork is not something we do.
I agree Carol that Commoners try their best, but when stallions move it gets tricky. Take our locality, year before last when Red Alert came over from Blackfield to Hill Top and happily shared a herd with Nobby - who could say for sure which sire was which for last years foals on Hill Top? If you got a roan foal from a solid lined mare then its probably Red Alert, but if you got a solid colour from a solid lined mare then which?
And the same year High Jack came over from Pig Bush/Culverly to Dibden Bottom and started mixing it up with Nobby/Red Alert. So its no-ones fault, but it is impossible to be sure. I also know of at least 3 registered Foresters who's sire is not as listed on the reg - but certainly in 2 cases by the time it was obvious from colouring, type etc. it was too late. The 3rd was obvious from day one and I remain baffled to this day as to how/why that reg went through unchallenged.
Stallions move about (as per posts above), not a lot can be done about it. My own stallion was obsessed with one particular region and even when we put him way up north, within a week or two I'd have an exasperated agister on the phone asking me to come get him and take him back 'cos he was chasing off the nominated stud. Its one of the small prices we pay for breeding natural, tough, native stock in the time honoured way, not a failing, just a fact of life.
