During mid afternoon on Thursday 28th May 2009, a brown Staffordshire Terrier type dog was seen chasing and attacking several ponies, one with a foal, in the vicinity of the Beaulieu Road Sale Yard off the B3056.

At one point, the dog was seen hanging from the throat of one of the ponies.

The dogs owners apparently did little to call the dog off until it was kicked by one of the ponies.

The dog apparently continued to chase the ponies in the direction of Decoy Pond Farm.

Attached is a photograph of the injury sustained by one of the ponies.

If anyone witnessed this incident or has any information that may help identify the owner of the dog, please contact the Police on 0845 045 4545 or the Verderers Office on 023 8028 2052.

Why oh why can't people learn to control their dogs. It makes me sick. I see aggressive and unruly dogs all the time round here (coastal sussex). Bring back dog licences and compulsory dog owning courses to all owners

Unfortunally dog licences etc will only tax the honest and caring public not the sort of louts old or young and many are older who allow their dogs to behave in this way.Peraphs the keepers need a description etc of offending dogs (allthough it should be owners) as any dog worrying stock can and should be shot.

That is appalling sad.gif Surely someone managed to get some info on the vehicle at least? I for one would willingly contribute to a reward to try and find the owners of the dog. Sadly it will have to be the dog that really pays (with its life) for what is actually the crime of stupidity and ignorance of the owner... sad.gif

Shame the dog survived the kick. Why are owners so irresponsible? Let's hope a witness comes forward with useful information

It says in the report that apparently the owners did little to call the dog off - so that must indicate that someone else saw it happen to know that fact. Was it that person who reported it? Shame if they can't provide more info as its unlikely the owner is going to come forward. I'm going to tell the A&T of this, in the hope they might print it (shame too late for this weeks paper probably)

It is awful that some dog owners either don't care or can't control their animals, it also brings into disrepute all dog owners and strenthens the lobby that wants to ban dog walking on the forest. I cannot for the life of me understand why people allow the stock to be attacked, or drive so dangerously that they maim stock. I think we need a massive TV campaign bringing the faces of the commoners to the publics attention, introducing animals by name and family history, tell stories about the forest and show pictures of the carnage to try and get non commoners to make a personal link to the stock and their owners so that they take more care around them.
