Here are a couple of pictures of a trial that we are undertaking of reflective patches for the hindquarters of our Forest running stock. Steve Kitcher has a friend who has offered to produce them for our animals, and subject to them staying on long enough to make it worthwhile, will be available to all at a later date. Please don't ask me how much they are going to cost, as no price has been discussed yet. I can tell you that one of our other ponies has head them on for a couple of days, and I tried to pull one off today, without success. So, fingers crossed, and I will let you know how we get on. My daughter has just driven by one of them this evening, and said the patches threw back loads of light in her headlights.
Our bay mare has lost one, but I didn't get them on her probably.

I would be quite interested in something like this to stick on my pony's rug to make him more visable at night if I am looking for him in the dark field with just a torch.

patches please

I will have some patches please when they are available, I have just been to Marlpit x roads having been notified that one of my girls had been hit and sadly killed by a driver tonight. At least they had the decency to call and identify themselves.Still....no rain so no wet roads to blame, makes you wonder.....
Few weeks ago on way to yard In Brockenhurst at 7am (was dark) I only just saw 3 ponies walking in the road on the same direction as I was going - lucky for them and me I only just saw their bum and back legs being up pretty close - they certainly could have done with these reflective patches on their bums. When got to yard gate (30 seconds later) I heard a car screeching its breaks to a stop - and I just prayed the ponies were not hit. Lucky for the ponies I was able to count 3 ponies when they trondled past the yard gate. All it takes also is another driver coming the other way with lights on full blinding the driver in the opposite direction. Along with these excellent reflectors patches, and hopefully reduce the forest roads to 30mph - perhaps they also should have signs in the forest to say please dip lights when passing other vehicles. Most drivers do but there are many that dont.

All my girls have the collars on, They really do make a difference but the stickers would be a great help. Although my girlie was not hit from behind this time. You never know... Why are the collars not part of the requirement to turn out on the forest? Is it the health and saftey rule. I am not being sarcastic just would like to know.

Collars can never be made mandatory, as they must come off easily if the pony gets hung up. Also some mares do not come in on drifts so it would not be possible to get collars on them. Hope this helps. Please ask for more info if you are unsure.

totally agree about drivers forgetting to dip their lights on the Forest - get blinded 3 or 4 times from Thorney Hill to Burley each evening - really bad. Also find all the reflective road signs are so bright that they make huge shadows that hide ponies. Oh and while I'm beefing - fog lights when no fog and big cars that drive close behind my little one - their headlamps dipped or not shine directly into my rear view mirror so please any one who drives on the Forest at night please remember your highway manners, make the roads safe for drivers and they will be safer for the stock as well!

Brilliant idea, the mare I saw hit two weeks ago on the burley road to A31 was hit from behind, im so glad i found her after so peter could put her down. Anything that makes them more visable is a great idea and well worth it.
