It's not a really big deal if you get it, just make sure to go get it drained by a doctor as soon as possible, as once it hardens, you get a custom ear forever. I get it every once in a while for wrestling around at work with guys (they're motivated to win). It hurts like Hell to get it drained sometimes, but then again, it helps build the proper mental attitude.

Just get it drained BEFORE you tell your mom haha.
