Projected 2009-2010 Varsity Line Up

by Ranker

Well after talking to coaches and wrestlers on the team and seeing what people certified at, below is the projected 2009-2010 varsity line up. 125 is clogged up as three wrestlers certified at that weight. If Reyes decides to go 130 then the wrestle off will be between Grisafe and Vanderschaaf. The loser will go 135. Given they way LCC's football season is going we might not see our 215 and heavy until the middle of December. 103 and 145 are big question marks with multiple people fighting for those two spots.

103?

112 Alex Dimas

119 Bryan Grubbs (3rd California state, Texas State Champion)

125 Kyle Vanderschaaf (5th CIF D1) /TJ Grisafe (6th CIF D1)

130 Billy Reyes (5th Masters, 5th CIF D1)

135 TJ Grisafe (6th CIF D1)/Kyle Vanderschaaf (5th CIF D1)

140 Kyle Switzler (5th Masters, 2nd CIF D1)

145?

152 Nick Nelson (3rd and 5th Masters, 5th CIF D1)

160 Casey Schafer (6th CIF D1)

171 Cody Anderson (9th CIF D1)

189 Taylor Cox (5th Masters, 6th CIF D1)

215 Cody Williams (5th CIF D1. Wont be available until after football)

285 Nico Rodriguez (Wont be available until after football)

Good Luck!

by Lofaro

Hey guys, I just kind of wanted to stop by and wish everyone good luck with the season coming up in a few weeks. I was talking to a kid that lives across the hall from me up here at Cal Poly the other day. He wrestled at Serra High School, which I guess is a school up in Northern California. Anyway, I told him I wrestled for La Costa Canyon, and he recognized it and said that we had a really great program. It was pretty cool because he was saying that he knew that LCC and Poway were the really good teams from San Diego. I knew we had recognition among schools within the San Diego and Southern Sections because we wrestled at some of those tournaments, but I was surprised to hear that teams from Northern California knew about us and knew we had a great program. I just thought I would share that with you guys so that you might realize how amazing your guys' program really is.
Alright well anyways, good luck with the upcoming practices, and I'm not sure if there are going to be any more preseason tournaments, but if so good luck with those too, especially you seniors. Its' going to be a big year with all the experience in that lineup! I will definitely see you guys in the room while I'm home for Thanksgiving break.

... Roy, you're not allowed to respond to this post... Just kidding bud, you're obviously free to respond to this, but do me a favor and keep the smileys to a minimum. Haha.. still kidding, I just had to do it.

Coaching help?

by

After several years of trying to juggle my own kids and coaching the team at Oak Crest, I finally have to step down. I just can't make it every day this year.. I'm hoping we can find someone within the Maverick Wrestling family who could step up and help out. Ideally an Oak Crest alumnus.

I can help out with practices a couple of days a week and could help with paperwork, etc.

There is a money stipend involved. You would need to get a background check and fingerprints. The time commitment would be Monday evenings 6:00-8:00pm, Tuesday/Wednesdays from 2:30pm to 4:30pm and Thursdays/meet days from 2:30-5ish. Plus a whole Saturday in late February for league championships. Practices usually start after Thanksgiving and the league finishes in late February with possible regional and state tournaments going into early March. Usually we pool together several teams and do practices for state as a league.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you in touch with my athletic director.

Thanks,

Ben Carlson

Alias of slain rapper Tupac Shakur deriving its meaning from renaissance man Niccolo Machiavelli. Tupac would go on to record much of his unreleased material under this alias.

Let's not play this joke yet again.

It got old LAST year.

Donnell is not even around anymore, he was kind of weak anyways, not the kind of morale we need on the team at this point in time.

Let's quit harassing him, it's not fun to kick someone when they're down anyways.

Knock it off!

by Don Williams

Owl
You talk about not harassing someone then take shots at team members. This forum is funded by private money for the exclusive use of our team and our fans. If you want to say stupid stuff go over to another forum and do it. This will be your only warning this year. Grow up. If you continue to take shots at anyone on this team I will have Dave Buck ban you from the forum. Is that clear? That goes for any of you who feel the need to take shots at people.

LCC Golf Tournament-Oct 26th...Raise Money for Wrestling

by Anonymous

Monday, October 26th is the Maverick Athletic Boosters major fundraiser, The Annual Golf Tournament. This year it is at Shadowridge Golf Course and is a scramble format. It is $220 per golfer (which also includes lunch and dinner). It is $50 for after golf dinner guests. Wrestling can earn money for the wrestling program by participating. If you are interested in golfing, being a hole sponsor or donating an auction item, please sign up. The sign up form is on lcchs.com, either thru the link in e-news or go to lcchs.com and select "Foundation" in the top header and look for Athletic Boosters (MAB). Karen Tincup is the Golf Committee contact for wrestling. If you have a business, donating services or something from your business is a great auction item and good for advertising. This event is open to friends, neighbors, relatives, alumni or anyone else.

Begin

by Owl

It's time to decide just how important wrestling is to you.
It's time to step up and make choices.
There is no time left for some of you, this is it. Where will you go, how far will you go, how hard will you push yourself? These are questions you must ask yourself.

I have witnessed growth in many of the wrestlers and I am biting my tongue in excitement of this upcoming season.

Varsity has a pretty solid line up, except for 215's and HWT's, which remain up in the air. Im not aware of any people near 215's. As for HWT, I have no idea either. So who will step up for that?

As for JV I also think they can take a tournament or two, we have alot of good incoming sophmores.

As for the Freshman i've seen little of them, I poked my head into open room and saw a few new faces learning and it was a very fast paced learning, picking up stuff left and right.

I was worried about LCC after this year and I realized, we'll be just fine.

Pick up the pace gentlemen.

It Starts Now.

My opinion....

by LCC Fan

You forgot about our 215lb Freshman last year that placed in CIF. He will surprise this year, w/ a yr. under his belt!
Every kid will have Varsity experince from 112lb through 215lb.
Don't know who the 103 & heavy will be.

Actually!

by Ranker

Actually LCC returns 11 starters and 10 CIF placers from last year.

103 we will see a young freshman that will fill this slot.

112 will most likely be Sophomore Alex Dimas.

119 Senior Bryan Grubbs returns after a year in Texas and he should contend for a state title in his senior year.

125 We will see a much improved Senior Billy Reyes looking to improve on his 5th place Masters showing last year.

130 and 135 we will most likely see returning sophomore CIF placer TJ Grisafe and Senior CIF placer Kyle Vanderschaaf.

140 We will most likely see returning Senior Kyle Switzler who is looking to improve on his 5th place Masters showing.

145 and 152 will be former State Qualifier Nick Nelson. Nick is looking to return to state this year. Young Joe Daniels will finally get his chance to fill the varsity slot at the weight Nelson does not go.

160 We should see returning senior and CIF placer Casey Schafer who will be looking to qualify for state in his final year.

171 Senior Corey Anderson returns at and is hoping to improve on his 9th place showing at CIF last year.

189 CIF and Masters Placer Taylor Cox returns and is looking to be in Bakersfield in March.

215 A bigger, stronger, and older Cody Williams returns for his sophomore season at 215 after placing 5th at CIF last year. He will not be available until after football season.

HWT Rumor has it that Nico will return for his senior season. He is weighing about 230 so should fill in nicly here. He will not be available until after the football season.

Rumor also has it that Coach Williams will be making a documentary/highlight video of the 2009-2010 season. Anyone that has seen his football video's and the 2004 LCC team video knows what I am talking about.

Probable LCC Vasity Line UP

103 freshman

112 Dimas

119 Grubbs (3rd at California State, Texas State Champion)

125 Reyes (5th Masters, 5th CIF D1)

130 Grisafe (6th CIF D1)

140 Switzler (5th Masters, 2nd CIF D1)

145 Nelson (3rd and 5th Masters, 5th CIF D1)

152 Daniels

160 Schafer (6th CIF D1)

171 Anderson (9th CIF D1)

189 Cox (5th Masters, 6th CIF D1)

Thank You

by Owl

Thank you Ranker. I totally forgot about Cody Williams.

Nico Rodriguez? havent seen him in awhile. Hopefully he's big. The HWT weightclass is no joke.

It's a shame we dont have any heavier kids on the team. It goes from Taylor to Cody? What a strange jump.

Recruit people from football!

I am eager to see this year unfold.

Nico

by Meat Cakes

Ive been watching Nico in Football every day and hes have been doing a ton of work in the weight room and is bigger and stronger than ever and is weighing around 240 last time i asked him. All we need is a good HWT coach to come in and help him brush up on some skills.

Any ideas?????

Re: Nico

by Owl

I'll look around. Taylor Cox could also help him, his experience with big guys the entire summer would probably shoot Nico right into the running.

Re: Actually!

by Roy

Well I think Nelson might try to go 152's or even 160, seeing as he weighs somewhere around the 160's but. but my bets on 152.

If Nico, doesnt show we could have Calvin as HWY, hes had experience with heavier guys, and more experience overall.
(oh and Nico's a Junior, not Senior :P)

Yes! The List Continues!

The excitement is rising. Only a few months left.

I can not wait to see grubbs wrestle again, it has been ages.

Has anyone seen his texas match? Was it good?
