Check out this website. They're the group in charge of the tourney in Vista. Scroll down a bit to find the fall schedule.

Re: Varsity

Depends, do you want them to be?

What when it comes to wrestling Varsity, sure they hound you a bit.

But they're your brothers. You grow with these people.

Also, dont stand out and make yourself look like you're the cats meow, cuz you're not.

Varsity is the Hammer, and if you stick out, you are for sure going to be the nail.

And if you havent come to open room or PE, why listen to what others say?

Make your own judgements.

Also I really DO NOT suggest posting this on the forum, because the answer would obviously be biased. Think that one through kid, any more questions, email me.

Re: Varsity

by IStillBleedGreen

Varsity is varsity. It is the best athletes (or should be..) of that sport in that school. They will be the most intense, the most aggressive, and... the best.

That being said, few coaches, including Buth will allow extreme harassment. Jerks? It depends on what you consider a jerk. Don't come into the wrestling room never wrestled before thinking your going to walk onto varsity. There are some tough boys there. However, if you come with the desire to learn, you will find a coaching staff eager to assist you (assist also means condition you physically and mentally for wrestling) and a team you will bond with like no other sport. Wrestling is a combat sport, and like in combat, the bonds you create are strong.

So... long story short, go check out the wrestling room, talk to the coaches, the wrestlers, the alumni, and the parents, and above all else, have fun. (Fun would equal beating your opponent one on one... haha)

I hope this helps, and hope to see you out on the mat!!

Re: Varsity

If you are nice to the Varsity wrestlers, there will be no problems what so ever. But if you talk back to them and don't cooperate with the program, there will be problems.

For example, if you plan on putting laxatives in the drinks of a varsity wrestler and they catch you, don't expect them to do nothing about it.

I believe that we are fairly nice and reasonable people.

Anybody who wrestled for me at Oak Crest probably remembers my story about my buddy Jamie who got the "squirts" on the mat. Don't do it! You think Buth was mad about his house, he's just as protective of his mats.

It's late Friday night......I think some of my boys came by.......?????

by Coach Buth

Well, I think some of my boys came by to visit, but didn't come to the door and say hi (that was rude), I would have took you on in a game of ping pong!!!! They just decorated our house a little bit and left. Our house is nice and white. There is still some TP up in the tree and on the roof.

I think that Russ Kusomoto (one of my high school coaches) must be getting me back from my high school days. I allegedly decorated his house a few times. However, never did any damage to his house!!!!! Thank you for not doing that too mine!!!!

Well what did Coach Kusomoto do to us..................... or the individuals who could have came by to say hi..................?????

Well we had to do Fifty (that's 50) 220's under 40 seconds, otherwise it didn't count. We kept it under :40 for about 20 of them, that was it. However, we still finished up the 220's....that's over 6 miles of sprints!!!!

With inflation since 1989, maybe it should be 100 (one hundred) 220's under :40 seconds????!!!!

PAIN IS YOUR FRIEND!!!

by IStillBleedGreen

It wasn't a waste of time... consider it a window of opportunity to improve your mental motivation. If anyone is interesting in improving their mental motivation when it comes to pain, I can lead you to a group in Ramona who wear green pants and can help you in that regard.

Long story short... suck it up, its good for you, look at it this way... if I am feeling pain, so are you. This makes me want to push it ten fold, because I KNOW you will crack before me. Embrace the pain.

Re: Ramona group?

by IStillBleedGreen

This group in Ramona consists of 21 of the most in shape, intense, no sympathy individuals you will ever meet. Most of them are prior wrestlers from around the county, and a few from around the nation. This group taught me not block out pain, but to FEED off of it. Again, in that if I feel pain, THIS IS A GOOD THING! If I am hurting, so are you, and I WILL push you over your limit. I WILL break you mentally. hahaha. This is why I kind of laugh when people complain about the pain of varsity practice. A) You know not of pain... B) Pain is good for you. If only I had this mental attitude when I wrestled for LCC. My single goal in life is to beat this into my brothers head.

If this sounds mildly crazy to you... it's because it is.

Re: Ramona group?

by IStillBleedGreen

First off, you have to be out of high school. So, wrestle hard, stay in school, and help bring LCC a championship title. The best way to get into this group is to wrestle. Train your physical and mental attitude. Become the best. You should be grinning when every muscle in your body is cramping with a vengeance, you can barely catch your breath, and everything hurts. Becoming the best also includes not showboating, or cheap shots. I have and will continue to publicly boo any LCC wrestler (I wrestled for LCC) that purposely tries to humiliate a lesser skilled wrestler, or who uses cheap shots. It is inexcusable.

As for this group, it isn't private, it is a job. However, I know of few people that are prepared for it, and it is difficult to get into. On top of that, ok pay, Hellish working conditions, and a hostile workforce. It is the best job I have ever had.

However, this is LCC's wrestling website, and we (mostly you...) should be concentrating on A)staying in school and 2)wrestling to the next level.

Tell me who you are and maybe I will see you at a dual meet some time.

Wrestle hard,

Varsity/JV wrestlers are given seven days off for Christmas (December 22-28). Frosh wrestlers are given a little more time. Vacations should be planned accordingly during this time frame. January is full bore in the middle of the season for all three levels.

SD SECTION GOES BACK TO ONLY 3 QUALIFIERS

by Don Williams

The SD section will only have 3 state qualifiers in each weight class in 2009. The last time we only had 3 qualifiers was 2004 when we had 16 placers. We as a section lost the 4th qualifier based on performance over the last 3 years at the State meet. Getting to state became that much harder! Keep this in mind when training.

That is interesting...Free Practice?????...
It isn't exactly free. Myself, the staff and alumni come into the room to give back to the sport, and remember the coaches that have given to each of us in the past ("free practices"). We give to the communities as well. If you have ever had a "free practice" sometime in your life, you need to pay for that practice later down the road. You can do that by helping out others in the great sport of wrestling!!

Simon knows about all the other minor sports such as basketball so we want him to memorize the lcc website for a future test. We will also be teaching him the rules of high school wrestling since it seems the US National Wrestling team doesn't know how to wrestle freestyle anyway (except for one wrestler). We'll also test him on the rules of wrestling also.

Simon was right about the scorpions. They must have had them hidden at the street vendor stalls because we didn't see any. We did see sea horses but didn't want to eat the little critters. Seemed too cruel. Well back to the sight seeing.

Disclaimer:
This is just In My Opinion and this post is by no means an attack on LCC football coaches/the LCC football program.
~~
Haven't we already posted like 2-3 articles and they still argue about it?
Regardless of all the points we make, they dont seem to want to give up a great football player for summer wrestling camps. They seem to lose out on alot, and its a hard choice especially with our programs both being as amazing as they are.

frustrating

by Carlson

It's frustrating to look at the varsity football roster and see the names of at least 5 or 6 former wrestlers. Several of those guys were league champs in middle school and would easily be varsity wrestlers this year if they had stayed with it.

I'm not on campus so I can't comment on the vibe that's put off by the football team. I'm just disappointed to see guys like the Kaisers, Spencer Darlin, and Karl Nelson do so well in 8th grade then give up before they have a chance to make varsity in high school. LCC is a good sports school. You have to work hard to make any varsity Maverick team.

Wrestling and football are similar enough that coaches of either program should be happy to have athletes letter in both. Strength, toughness, agility, endurance are developed in both sports.

I could see kids who play club basketball or soccer quitting wrestling because the seasons are the same. Armando Navarro comes to mind as someone who had to make that choice. The wrestling and football seasons don't overlap enough to make that much of a difference. For example, Joran, Devon Donahue, Kyle Purcell, Drew Shaw, among others all came out for wrestling once football was over.

The toughest kid at my high school "back in the day" did football, wrestled to get tougher and ran track to get faster. He was the only one in my class (all 85 of us) to get a college scholarship to play football.

Oh, well. That's my two cents. I'm glad the guys I mentioned are still doing sports and doing well. I just wish they were still wrestling.

what you'll need next is an old article of Lorenzo Neal talking about his wrestling days and how it prepared him for the one on one match-ups when blocking or running the ball

Camp of Champs update....

by LCC Fan

Well, there first workout was tough right out of the shoot. They did a great job, especially with little sleep and being in a car for 8 hours straight right to the mat. They are getting a lot of one on one w/ the different counselors. This is a great camp for them, learning a lot along the way.
