Special Thanks for Hamada Tournament

by Anita Alei

Thank you to all the parents for contributing to the Coaches and Referee's Hospitality Suite. These Coaches spend a lot of time and energy with their wrestlers and we wanted to give them a special thanks by having a nice hospitality suite.

Special Thanks to:
Diane Wood and Sarah, and Diane's Mother and Father for running the concessions, grilling the burgers, and buying all the food. (Diane and Sue, thanks again for getting the concession room ready.)

Sue Webb for all your time and efforts to solicit donations and run the Hospitality Suite. Also thanks to your team, Cindy Nelson and Cari Hernandez.

Cari Hernandez for coordinating the food donations from Chipotle and food purchases from Pat and Oscars and Subway. Thank-you Bobby Hernandez and Teresa Mahoney for picking the food up. (sorry for the mix-up Tony and thank-you for volunteering!).

Every person volunteering at the concessions and at the ticket table (too many to name but you know who you are). Kristi and Matt Grisafe, David Anderson, Dominic and Jamie Arguelles. Julie Cox, Linda Neely and Roxy Alei; all for staying "extra long" to help.

Host families, The Neely Family, Cox Family, Switzler Family, Alei Family and Schafer Family.

Thank you Coach Buth, Williams and Ramirez for another well run tournament!

I'm sure I left someone off the list. There were others helping set up tables and working the bout room (Thank you Lisa)...

All volunteers, your efforts helped to make this tournament a success! Thanks.

Re: Points incorrect for Randall

by Don Williams

You are correct. The coaching staff forfeited Tim out of his consolation semi-final match and Tim did not wrestle again. It was a coaching decision and not Tim's. There was a double default by Tim and his opponent in the 5/6-place match and Tim’s points should read 16. Just keep in mind that the official team points are kept by the coaching staff in the team stat book. The web master can only go off of what TMI put down as a result.

Also, just a quick class on team points. Team points for tournaments are calculated much differently than a dual meet. The web master uses the dual point system on the web site because it is easier to calculate but it is not a true reflection of actual points earned for the team by each wrestler. An example would be where a guy loses in the second round in a 32-man bracket tournament. He wrestles back and wins 6 in a row to take 3rd. According to the dual point system he would have accumulated more points than a guy that only wrestled 4 matches but won the tournament. In reality, each win in the consolation bracket is only worth one point. However, a semi final win with a pin can be worth as much 13 or 14 points to the team. Therefore, a guy that only wrestles 4 or 5 matches and makes the finals accumulates more points than a wrestler who wins 7 or 8 matches and places 3rd.

My advice is not to get to caught up in the points registered on this web site. We as a team have much loftier goals. Every team member is an integral component and we don’t want to be distracted by little things. We have a vision where we want to be at CIF, Masters, and State. Keep focused on the big picture and keep your eye on the prize.

Any other corrections about matches, team points, etc. should be emailed to the web master rather than put on the forum.

Local Boy does good!

by M Webb

Looks like Ryan won a tough match....5-3. Congratulations Ryan. It must have been all that training with TJ (that's what TJ calls it. You might call it a butt-whipping)..

Good luck on the rest of the season!!!!

Early Release Papers

by Anita Alei

If your Student is leaving early for a sporting event, they need to pick up an early release form from the Athletic Secretary (I think the papers are outside Nancy Wease's door) before school or during breaks before they leave.

They need to show it to the teacher (who's class they are leaving from) or if they leave between periods, they need to have it just in case someone asks them why they are walking around campus when they should be in class.

The parent's don't have to call in or pick anything up. Only the wrestlers.
The students are also responsible for making up any classwork, getting notes from the missed classes, getting homework assignments and getting their homework in at the regularly scheduled time or talking with the teacher to figure how to make up the missed time.

Early release

Thanks. Alec thought that the coach said he didn't need one for this, but he asked me to write him a note for his teacher. I had told him to see Nancy Wease, so he probably picked up a form. I am sure he worked it out.
