The Team placed 6th w/ a partial squad........

by Coach

The team took 6th, not bad considering we only had 10 guys at the tournament. Schussler took 3rd and Nelson took 4th.

Go Mavs!!!

LCC JV Championship results

by Don Williams

It was my intent to post the JV County Championships last night when I got home. However, I was pretty sick yesterday and today. When I got home I just went to bed.

Overall, a very good team effort! There were approximately 30 teams represented. We took 6th overall despite not fielding a 112 and 160 pounder. We had one champion, one 2nd place, three 3rds, and one 4th. The young Mavs have a bright future. The key to continued success in this sport is to continue to work hard, especially in the off season. A consistent weight training program to gain strength is also a key to continued success. This will become more important as the young Mavs transition from the underclassman ranks and strive to find their place in the varsity line up next year. Kyle Switzler was given the coveted "Team Picture" for being the LCC’s only Champion. Congratulations to all the young Mavs who competed yesterday.

Great Team Effort!

by Ruchman

I feel that today was an excellent day for Maverick wrestling. I'm thrilled to be part of a coaching staff that cares deeply about the success of the team as well as the well-being of each individual wrestler. For the freshmen, today was their chance to shine and it was wonderful to see the more senior team members throw their support toward the younger guys and instill them with the confidence to battle their hearts out. Dustin Hernandez exuded empathy and understanding when he stood by Ryan Barton's side after his injury. Tim Randall exhibited leadership (which is becoming, perhaps, his strongest characteristic) when he gathered the three finalists and spoke to them about the importance of their final matches. All said, the team came together as a single unit, cracked some jokes, laughed, but worked diligently and ultimately grew as an entity.
**Props to Coach Williams and Coach Buth who, together, facilitated (in my opinion) an impeccably well-run tournament.
**Props to Mrs. Webb and Mrs. Alei (I just don't know everyone else yet)who hospitably treated and hosted the coaches.
**Props to the entire JV and Varsity guys for making the day competitive, enjoyable and instructional.
**Props to the parents who came out today to watch their sons compete in a great sport.
**Props to Ryan Barton who, despite receiving an injury in the final match, battled like a freaking animal throughout the day.
**Props to Kevin Stanley for being aggressive and sticking his opponent in the first period.
**Props to Taylor Cox and Kyle Switzler (spelling?) for going to the finals and learning from their mistakes. They'll be that much stronger as a result of the losses.
**Props to Coach Barton for selflessly coaching the freshmen to victories and consoling and teaching them through their losses.
The team's full of great people and I had an awesome time today. I hope to see the team build off of the experience and further strenghten the cohesiveness of the group as a whole. Peace

Concessions and Hospitality Suite

by LCC Parent

Thanks to the many who contributed their time.

Special thanks to Diane Wood for a great concession stand and Sue Webb for the hospitality suite. All the shopping and organizing is much appreciated.
Special thanks to Theresa Mahoney and Phil Alei for picking up food and Lori Lofaro for getting the extras for the pancake breakfast and being a key person at the Concessions. Janice Merrill and Cindy Nelson for taking care of T-shirt sales and the endless hours of help from the Locicero, Osegueda, Mahoney, Grisafe, Webb, Anderson and Alei siblings at the ticket counter and more.

Real Winners don't have to Win

by Anonymous LCC Parent

I want to recognize ALL the Wrestlers....Frosh, Soph, Juniors, Seniors, CIF contenders to novice.

It is great to get recognition and Brian Grubbs and Elliot Dennis deserve it! It it is the guys that get on the mat and lose more than they win (or rarely win), and keep coming back that I respect and think are real winners too!! Keep up the good work and don't think because you lose we are disappointed in you, quite the opposite, we are amazed at your character and respect your willingness to go out there and compete! We are proud of all of you.

It is easier to come back to wrestle when you are pumped up and winning. When you aren't getting the recognition and keep coming back...that's learning a life lesson. Congratulations.

Winners....

by Wrestling parent

A real winner is just as you described. Someone with the character to compete when they know that the recognition is small, the reward is zero, and the opposition is tough. I am proud to say that I am a wrestling parent, and very proud that I am an LCC wrestling parent!

James Sullivan - Let him wrestle!

by Anonymous LCC Parent

Is there something we can do to help? We don't know the whole situation and don't want to. Wrestling is a difficult sport and when someone wants to wrestle as much as James does, why can't he wrestle? He's a kid and it is his Senior year. Have a heart and some compassion! Can't the politics be put aside and just let him wrestle? You can't wait forever without getting on the mat. It is his Senior year, why hurt someones High School Memories or a chance to get a college scholarship? HAVE A HEART, FORGIVE AND FORGET AND LET HIM WRESTLE!!! Give him a chance to get scouted for college. This isn't only about High School. Is there something we can do or someone we need to talk to?

I one hundred percent agree.Let him wrestle!Even if there were rules broken, its about the kids and Sullivan is one of the best and its ridiculous that any man that calls himself a coach would do anything to prevent any wrestler from achieveing their full potential. Its very unprofessional and pathetic. however sullivan thankfully has post season freestyle,(his best event),to show his true potential as a wrestler.GO SULLIVAN!!!
