Today we discussed what to expect in History 101. They organized their folders and we talked about what is going to be covered in class for the next 2 months. They are not to work on anything but their index cards, all other papers/projects will be covered in class. Just in case there was any confusion:

The students were assigned names or events to look up in their history books or by any other means. They were to find out the significance of the name/event and record it on the index card. ie:
October 12, 1492

Christopher Columbus
(Birth/death)

Tell why this date and this man are so important.

They are to write it in pencil first then they can go over it in a dark marker.

Try to get them to research enough to be able to answer a few "why, how," questions.

The Students will be learning alot this year but there will not be an excessive amount of take home work. Time line index cards and maybe a report on their favorite subject covered that quarter.

Feel free to ask and discuss what they learn and elaborate on your own if you feel that I am not covering the subject well enough or if you are just curious about the subject.

Hopefully they will be so excited about it they will open the discussions for you!
