The Box

by Robert Aldinger for Rita (no login)

Hi Rita.

Your curiosity about the missing ransom box is interesting, but have you considered the fact that all people do not know all things.

The box seems to originate with a message to Condon and then it disappears never to return. Where oh where has the ransom box gone, Oh where oh where can it be.

Well if the FBI had the box and checked it for clues, we might learn a lot. If the NJSP had the box, it would most likely disappear.

Lets use what information we have about the box to see if any reasonable conclusion can be reached. Basically we are told that the box dimensions are 7x14x7 inches. Why so? Are the dimensions connected to a place where the box has to pass through, or perhaps it is related to a void the box would fill? First thought is that the box would fit nicely into the area occupied by an ordinary concrete block. Another area the box could occupy would be the flare holder on a truck. Trucks had a box attached to the frame that held two kerosene flares to be used in the event of a breakdown. The flares measured 7x7x6.5 Inches.

Brings up the question, who might be connected to concrete block use?

As for the truck issue, Fred Aldinger was a truck driver with a regular route from New York to Chicago. By law Freds truck must carry road flares.

Scaduto wrote that the first ransom bills were passed at shops along the Cherry Valley route to Chicago.

Something to think about, that is not the same old same old.
