The ransom note details money denominations, but seems to neglect Charley in-the normal way a kidnapper would deal with the parents, and their love for Charley. The note seems to write off Charley as a predicament rather than a loved child exchanged for money. The note not only is written by English thinking person trying to mimic German words, but gives the impression of being written by a household member trying to fake a reasonable kidnap letter, but without thinking it out properly like demands made by a real kidnapper, and as being written in third person regarding Charley.

The ladder condition and missing employee fingerprints in the nursery tell of the disappearance happening on another day .
