I don't feel confident for Sweeney Todd though. Front runner for the GG I would think. Comedy/musical.
I really liked There Will Be Blood. I had no idea, other than there was buzz about a secret screening was happening. I about messed myself when the word was it was TWBB. Usual a film like that doesn't play the Fest.
Anyway, as I have said, I liked the movie. There are kinds of different elements to it, where it feels kind of like a western, then it feels like real melodrama, and then when you least suspect it, has a horror/thriller vibe to it, especially when Plainview.....well I can't go there, let's just used the word mentality. In some parts Plainview reminds me of Jack Torrence. So it has a plethora of different twists and turns. But will everybody like it? Probably not. Different strokes ya know.
But there won't be any denying of the performance. You'll leave with Plainview imprinted on your brain. As I said, it's as if he is commanding you to watch. Rare. The best he has ever done? I think the one in My Left Foot is a top 20 performance of all time. Special. But this one is up there, most definitely. I drink your milk shake! I drink it up! |
