foster is 50/50. people are saying great things about her performance, but the film itself is really just a fair fall release. ive also been reading in the paper that people are comparing her role to robert de niro's in taxi driver, pretty much saying she's a female Travis Bickle. coincidentally, foster acted in TD. i think it all comes down to the reception of the upcoming female-lead films. knightley in atonement, connelly in reservation road, blanchett in liz: golden age & i'm not there. apparently, jolie is pretty much losing a lot of buzz in the race so that could help her out, unless the DVD release helps her make a comeback and catch up. films like crash have def proven thats possible.

I really hope that Jodie gets a Best Actress nomination this year. I saw the movie on Saturday and I can easily say that she's given one of the year's only Oscar-caliber performances up until this point (the other being Angelina Jolie).
Her performance is so effective, and she's so good. I've always applauded her willingness to rough herself up. She's not afriad to get deep under the skin of her characters, and The Brave One once again proves this.
I think that the reviews are way wrong. The film, I thought, was great. Jodie's performance is phenominal.
I really hope she earns a nod. She really deserves it. She again proves why she's one of the finest actresses working today.
I encourage everyone to go see this film.

I think it's just too crowded of a race.
1) Keira Knightly (a near certainty b/c of Atonement's reception thus far)
2) Cate Blanchett (pretty much a certainty b/c she's the only redeemable thing about the so-so film, according to reviews)
3) Julie Christie (b/c her performance was amazing and there's always one old/comeback type in the lineup)
4) Laura Linney or Nicole Kidman or Keri Russell(b/c there's typically one comedic performance by a great actress in the top 5)
5) Marion Cotillard or Ellen Page (the wildcard... the first had a great performance... very moving.. and the latter is being championed by Ebert.. both indie/foreign type films)
Others:
Jennifer Connelly (could be #5 and some critics say the film is good but not great... thus, acting noms like Little Children).
Angelina Jolie (forgotten by now... but still more baity than Jodie's role)
I just don't see where Jodie fits into this lineup....

Jodie is good, but I seriously doubt it will be one out of the top 5 performances of the year. This is a brutal year. Highly competitive. Last year Whitaker and Mirren were locks by October. It won't be the case this year. In both lead actress and actor categories.
