Pretty predictable for the most part, I am surprised about Score and Screenplay though. Michael Clayton no screenplay nod...wow...thats a sin...

Viggo!!! And Eastern Promises. But no Cronenberg.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see TWBB on the list after the talk of how divisive it is. But PTA got left out in the cold.

Do they love Denzel Washington or what? Two of his movies are in there, he finally got nominated for something, and they nominated Ridley Scott, too. I guess that film isn't dead yet.

Philip Seymour Hoffman got some love finally, nominated in two categories.

Across the Universe is a nice surprise, though I'm very, very sad about Once.

Overall, these are great picks. Lots of love for Atonement, and Charlie Wilson's War. CWW really is their type of film.

And finally a nomination for Helena Bonham-Carter. She's been completely ignored.

Tim Burton is the only Best Director nominee from the C/M side of things so Sweeney Todd is the front runner, right? Same goes for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

I'm really sad/suprised that Frank Langella did not get nominated for Starting Out in the Evening. I was really rooting for him to get a nomination, and maybe some Oscar buzz. Seems almost impossible now.

I'm glad Eastern Promises got the recognition it deserves. In my opinion it's one of the best films of the year. I haven't seen all the BP nominations but I do believe Promises is a top contender.

That being said, as I suspected there is absolutely no love for Zodiac. It was released at a crappy time and it will get no recognition what so ever. It's still one of the best films of the year and one of the best directing and writing jobs I've seen in film in a long, long time. Downey Jr and Ruffalo in Zodiac were more deserving then John Travolta in best supporting. I would have gone with Vincent Cassel in Eastern Promises, Chris Cooper in Breach, and Josh Brolin in No Country over Travolta as well, but no can do I suppose.

I'm pulling for Eastern Promises to create some noise, if it doesn't then No Country all the way.

Also a few more things I forgot, if they were going to give 7 best picture drama nominations, atleast take out Debaters and replace it with Zodiac, Into the Wild, or Gone Baby Gone.

Denzel's performance was good, but how many times are we going to see that role before he stops getting awards for it? No love for Emile Hirsch.

john travolta getting a nod i don't agree with. ok so he played a fat woman, big deal. i think bale for 3:10 to Yuma and Crowe for American Gangster we completely missed on the golden globe nominations. I think also there are way 2 many best picture nominees. i'm also a little disappointed that before the devil knows your dead didn't get any nods either so overall i don't agree with some nods

Fading Fast?

Overall, I have to say the GG noms aren't bad. Unfortunately, they've made this race even more predictable (who thought that was possible?).

Laura Linney, Tommy Lee Jones, and Frank Langella seem to be fading fast, and that's just a big shame. They are said to deliver very impressive performances, but Linney, and Jones were left off the BFCA, and now the globes roster. Who thought that would happen to Laura? I thought she would be a frontrunner. Are you guys surprised? Or am I the only one?

Love to Atonement nominations, but I wish Into the Wild was up there with it.

My thoughts

Well lets see...

Best Drama didnt really surprised me. They always have a ridiculous amount of nominees somewhere. This year it was for the drama movies.

Best Actress Drama was very predictible, even if i dont find very good to grant a nomination to Blanchett in this space. Help came to Knightley.

Best Actor Drama helps (big time) Denzel Washington and also Viggo Mortensen.

Best Comedy or Musical was also predictible though i would have prefered to see Enchanted somewhere.

Best Actress Comedy or Musical had what was wanted. I disagree in having left out Laura Linney.

Best Actor Comedy or Musical surprised to see Reilly and Gosling. It wont get them an oscar nod but good for them.

Best Animated Feature: lack of Beofulf, excess of Bee Movie

Foreign Language: well i just thank god that next year the rules are chaging to actually nominate foreign films. Love Persepolis and 4 months as well as The Diving Bell.

Supporting actress: Sorry but what is Julia Roberts doing in there ? Where did Redgrave, Tomei, Garner o Dee went ?

Supporting Actor: for the exception of obvious nod Travolta, this guys are in the good way to the Oscars(except maybe for Hoffman, too).

Best Director: I like this 5 guys, for the exception of Ridley Scott. That spot has a name: P.T. Anderson.

Screenplay: Very good for the Diving Bell and my favourite Juno. Not very agree with Charlie Wilson's War

Original Score: Very Good. Though Eastwood wont make it to the Oscars.

Original Song: Being a colombian makes me proud of seing Shakira here. A little dissapointed by the fact of having snubbed Hairspray.

Thats all. What's ur opinion ?

I remeber years when there were six nominees for Best Picture: Drama (2000 off the top of my head). Has there ever been 7 nominees in this category before?
