Best Picture: I feel like this is one of the best years for this race in a while. I thuroughly enjoyed all of the films. I truly feel that No Country for Old Men was the best film of the year and will/should win. Juno would be my second choice.

Best Director: Give it to the Coens. It may not be their best film, but I'd say its the best direction of the year. PT Anderson is a close second.

Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis should/will win.

Best Actress: Give it to Ellen Page. She was amazingly funny, charming, and real in Juno. She delivered the hokey dialogue perfectly. It seems like more of a challenging role than any of the others. She has scenes in which she must make the audience laugh as well as break down. Best performance by a female this year.

Best S. Actor: Javier Bardem was horrifying and just all around terrific.

Best S. Actress: This is probably the hardest category for me to decide since I haven't seen I'm Not There or Gone Baby Gone. Ruby Dee's performance is overrated, and she did not deserve the SAG for this performance. It was well-done but hardly stands up to her competitiors. I'm going to go with Soairse Ronan. I thought she showed great talent and promise in Atonement.

Best Supporting Actress: This really is a complicated category, but I honestly think Tilda Swinton should take this one. She played the villian greatly in Michael Clayton and she really brought out the frustrations of her character. It would be nice if Blanchett won again, but I want to see her honored in the Leading category. Amy Ryan's performance was just okay for me. Ruby Dee even though she's awesome, she really lacked screen time in American Gangster and Soarise Ronan is a big boo for me. Atonement deserves nothing.

Best Supporting Actor: I think the time has come for Tom Wilkinson to have a oscar in his hands. He was just excellent. I know I'm all up Michael Clayton's ass but the supporting performances cannot be ignored. I Believe Max Von sydow should win for The Diving Bell and The Butterfly, but he was wrongfully snubbed. Everybody knows Javier Bardem is going to win, but he really was just good with what they gave him. It's a shame that Affleck's and Holbrook's performances are being overlooked to win because of Bardem, aaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnndd Hoffman didn't deserve a nomination. That's all I have to say with that.

Best Actress: I think Marion Cotillard should take it for La Vie En Rose. Many may say the movie was just a complete bore, but regardless her performance was unlike anything I seen this year. I wouldn't be upset if Julie Christie wins because she gave a lovely performance in Away From Her. Everybody else needs to realize it's a war between Christie and Cotillard.

Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis hands down. This shouldn't even be asked. It will be the end of days if he doesn't win.

Best Director: The Diving Bell and The Butterfly is my number one film of the year and I was really upset it didn't get a Best picture nomination so I hope the academy realizes that Julian Schnabel did a extraordinary job. The Coens are like nominated five times, so give it to them for something else for crying out loud.

Best Picture: No Country For Old Men is a great film, but I think There Will Be Blood is the film to go down in history. Juno was a good film but it was nowhere near great as NOCFOM or TWBB. It would be a great shock if Michael Clayton wins and i thought Atonement is a underrated piece of crap that didn't deliver anything except for cheasy lines like "Come Back To Me" and unnecessary scenes like the one of Dunkirk. There Will Be Blood is the one, but if No Country wins it wouldn't be an upset for me. Both these films were just awesome.

Best Picture: No Country was flat out the best film of the year (and maybe decade)
Winner: No Country for Old Men

Best Director: Coen bros did a great job, but no one else could do the job Tim Burton did, but he isn't nominated so I must go with Paul Thomas Anderson
Winner: Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood)

Best Actor: Okay so Daniel Day-Lewis gave the best performance of the year, but it wasn't my favorite performance of the year.
Winner: Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood) My favorite: Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises)

Best Actress: Haven't see Marion Cotillard yet and I wasn't a huge fan of Juno so...
Winner: Julie Christie (Away From Her)

Best Supporting Actor: Yawn...
Winner: Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men)

Best Supporting Actress: I haven't seen any of the big 4, but I've seen clips and by the clips I have to go with...
Winner: Cate Blanchett (I'm Not There)

There Will Be Blood for Picture
Paul Thomas Anderson for Director
Daniel Day-Lewis
Marion Cotillard
Tom Wilkinson
Amy Ryan
Juno for Original Screenplay
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly for Adapted Screenplay

I would be thrilled if even half of those won. Day-Lewis and Juno are the only ones that are frontrunners, and Cotillard and Ryan are possibilities. Meh. Still, I'm okay with all of the current Big 8 frontrunners, save Cate Blanchett, so I'll be happy on the 24th regardless.

Best Picture: No Country For Old Men

No contest here. No Country was the best movie of the year and even though three of the other four BP nominees are very good films, none touch the Coens masterpiece.

Best Director: Coen Bros.

See above. How Jason Reitman got a nomination over Joe Wright I will never know.

Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis

Best Actress: Marion Cotillard

Christe is probably taking this but Cotillard pulled off what I see as the more difficult role. Page should not even be in the conversation.

Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem

The supporting catagories each feature five damn good performances. Like with No Country in BP though Bardem just stands out.

Best Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett

The second best performance of the year (obviously behind Day-Lewis) is in serious danger of getting snubbed. Despite great performances from all of the nominees, there is not an actress alive who could have pulled off Bob Dylan other than Cate Blanchett.

Best Original Screenplay: Michael Clayton

The tightest screenplay of the year will lose to the overwrought, overrated, hipster darling of 2007. It's to bad to because it's the only catageory Clayton really deserves to win.

Best Adapted Screenplay: No Country for Old Men

Again, the best film of the year.

Picture: There Will Be Blood-This will go down as one of the finest films of the decade with No Country in its shadow.
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson-This is his year and the Coens are being rewarded more for their prior losses, give it to the man who deserves it for the film he made this year.
Actor: Daniel Day Lewis-The man is amazing.
Actress: Laura Linney-She is constantly brilliant and this is one of her best performances, why not?
S. Actor: Javier Bardem-Being the best part of a film should get him something, and he's a brilliant psychopath in this movie.
S. Actress: Cate Blanchett-How does she keep churning out amazing performances like this? She is terrific as a part of Bob Dylan and Ruby Dee should just stay home.
O. Screenplay: Juno-It's going to win despite it's desperately silly attempts to cram as much hip and sarcastic dialogue in so oh well. In a perfect world The Savages or Clayton would win.
A. Screenplay: There Will Be Blood-The Coens put every line of the book in and made an ok movie, Atonement was pretty good and very close to the book as well, but Anderson took Oil! and fashioned something completely different but just as powerful. That should be rewarded.

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN is a despicable bummer.
THERE WILL BE BLOOD has flashes of brilliance.
MARION COTILLARD was amazing. Julie Christie was OK.
DANIEL DAY LEWIS period.
JAVIER was too creepy but will win.
CASEY AFFLECT should win
CATE BLANCHETT deserves the oscar
KNOCKED UP at least deserved an original screenplay nomination
SAVAGES should win but will lose to JUNO
THERE WILL BE BLOOD is by far the best addapted screenplay
PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON has directed an American classic.

Best Picture

Will Win; It's simple, No Country For Old Men will win. I didn't like it, to say the least. I read the novel previous to watching the film and to be honest, the adaptation was mediocre at best. The Coen's have been in a slump for years and this is in no way an improvement. No Country picked up all the important pre-req's, (SAG DGA PGA), that will seal it.

Should Win: There Will Be Blood or Atonement. First off, Juno did not have enough depth to even be a best picture nominee, not to say that it wasn't a good movie, because it was, it was just too fluffy. Michael Clayton did not have a clear enough method of storytelling to impress me, it should have focused more on UNorth to create an affecting story. NCFOM simply was not good. No analysis necessary. Atonement was a beautiful, haunting tale of a missed chance at love. I thought it was fantastic. There Will Be Blood was a genius epic with one of the best performances in the HISTORY of film. If pressed I would vote for Atonement, because the third act of TWBB was a bit sloppy and didn't sum up well enough to be the 'perfect' epic.

Should Have Been Nominated: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. It was an imaginative, inventive piece that really stood out this year for me. It should have Michael Clayton or Juno's spot in the lineup.

Best Director

Will Win: Coen's. For sure.

Should Win: Julian Schnabel. He was innovative and stylistic and pulled it off without a hitch. Genius.

Should Have Been Nominated: Joe Wright. Atonement was fantastically directed, it touched me deeply and he was the reason for that.

Best Actor

Will Win - DDL!

Should Win - DDL!

Should have been Nominated - Who cares? DDL!

Best Actress

Will Win - Julie Christie is riding a wave of wins into the oscars. She will ride that wave all the way to the stage of the kodak theater.

Should Win - Ellen Page. Out of everything in Juno she stood out for me. She was touching in her own way and created a deep character with all the quirks necessary to be memorable.

Should Have Been Nominated - Keira Knightly. She finally had a mature role and knocked it out of the park.

Best Supporting Actor -

Will Win - Javier Bardem

Should Win - Javier Bardem, the best part of NCFOM.

Should have Been Nominated - PAUL DANO! He stood his ground against DDL and had an incredible performance. If he had been nominated it I would have more faith in the film to be loved enough by the voters to win BP.

Best Supporting Actress

Will Win - It's hard to say, a safe bet would be Cate, but my gut is telling me that Dee will be walking off the stage with the oscar.

Should Win - Amy Ryan. She was incredible and an unknown at that. Fantastic.

Should have Been Nominated - Jennifer Garner, I guess.

Should be a fun night, I'm hoping for some upsets!

Will win/should win (mostly guesses though)

BP: No Country for Old Men/NCFOM
BD: Coens/Coens
BA: Daniel-Day Lewis/Daniel Day Lewis
BActress: Julie Christie/Marion Cotillard
BSA: Javier Bardem/Javier Bardem
BSActress: Cate Blanchett/Amy Ryan

Yeah, I'm obsessed with No Country. But in any of the No Country categories, I wouldn't be all that pissed if There Will Be Blood won...it's almost as good, just not quite.

I expect a very boring Sunday, looks like all the awards were determined weeks ago. The glitz and glamor will be a welcomed return as opposed to the Globes, but I think we need to keep this thing in context. Win, lose or draw, twenty years from now...No Country and TWBB will be part of freshman courses in remote colleges somewhere, Atonement and Michael Clayton will show up on Late Late Late movies at three in the morning...Juno will continue to be shown on Primetime TV as a holiday special and we will all curl up with a bowl of popcorn and laugh hysterically at the antics and the gentle message. Very few movies that achieve cultural icon status win the coveted Oscar..Juno will continue to resonate with us all and turn a profit long after the dust has grown an inch thick on the other entries

SHOULD WIN

PICTURE
I will be elated if There Will Be Blood wins, happy if the winner is No Country for Old Men or Atonement, and I'll hate the Oscars forever if Juno or Michael Clayton wins.

DIRECTOR
Paul Thomas Anderson

ACTOR
Daniel Day-Lewis!

ACTRESS
Marion Cotillard! She had the most difficult role, and there was no trace of her in the performance: only Édith Piaf. The first time that I saw La Vie en Rose, I hated the film, but loved the performance. I now own the DVD, and I must say that the more I have watched it, the more I appreciate the execution of the movie. I have been a Piaf fan for years, so I am biased, and have never been so emotionally invested in a performance.

SUPPORTING ACTOR
Casey Affleck. But the inevitable Bardem is OK.

SUPPORTING ACTRESS
IMO, none of the performances were fantasctic enough that I'd want any of the nominees to be honoured with an Academy Award, but I'll say Saoirse.

ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Ratatouille

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
I read all of these before I went to see them (with the exception of Away from Her). Although There Will Be Blood was my favourite film of the year, I really did not enjoy reading the screenplay. I didn't like the fact that it was all about the camera blocking. I loved reading Diving Bell!
