Even if he failed with Alexander, AMPAS always has loved Oliver Stone's political stories (NIXON, JKF), do you guys think W will mark the return of Oliver Stone or will the controversy kill the project before it's even filmed?

I'm not a huge fan of the cast except for Ellen Burstyn. Also I think it is WAY too early for this movie to come out. I don't think it will completely flop but I have the feeling it won't be that great

I am just now reading the script. I too think it's a story way too early and too close to home with all that's went down with him in office. But I am reading anyway just to see if Stone's writer does anything that might be somewhat controversial.

It looks to be an awards magnet if done well, so I'd say it is totally in consideration. Of course, it's too early to tell (and for the film to be made). Way too early.

just for the fact that this film is being made too early and from what i can tell by reading the script, it is essentially neutral about G.W.B., W. will not recieve much if any Oscar consideration.

If the movie provides an accurate portrayal of events, I believe it will be accepted. Oliver Stone has a history of making intense biographic films, and I think he has a good shot at making this one a success.

It is more about Bush's persona rather then the actual events the film starts and ends with virtually dream sequences and such...it is more about his character and what makes him who he is and what his real dreams were(to be a baseball player)

Does anyone feel like this film is coming too soon? I mean really, Nixon came out a good twenty years or so after the man was out of office, so shouldn't we wait for maybe a couple years for Bush to leave before we judge him? I also thought it funny how Stone is specifically aiming at presidents with controversial reception. I believe he quoted to E! by saying "Bush may turn out to be the worst president in history..." (I could be wrong because I didn't hear the quote and E! is known for its very biased spins on stuff like that). I find it funny people are so quick to judge a president or authority figure like that. Wasn't this the same way we viewed Nixon or even Clinton just a few years back? No president is ever going to be perfect, but we shouldn't scrutinize them so quickly or we'll never get a good one.
Ok back to the movie, I am skeptical to the extreme over it, but given Stone's track record with political films, he may have a chance. Still, the bizzare casting choices and controversy over his depiction of W will leave me second guessing until some solid results come in.

From what i have heard and excerpts from the script itself, the film seems really....dare i say it...... campy. Some of the dialouge appears to be trying too hard. And apparently it focuses a lot on Bush's college frat boy/drugged up party years, and has him yelling drunkenly at his father, or referring to Carl Rove as "Turdblossom". Does that even seem like oscar material?

This film will bomb - what audience is this film going to have? The people who don't like Bush aren't going to want to see a film that humanizes him and attempts to make an understanding of why he is the way he is - then the people who do like him aren't going to see it because their going to think its biased ... so who does that leave?
i agree with you Z, that its too early, wait 10 years to make the film, you know, after all his policies have been in effect and we can really judge the quality of his administration. The casting choices are bizarre, and i read part of the script, its awful... Oliver Stone isn't relevant anymore, this is just desperation... The only awards this film will get are Razzies.
Now if a feature length version of the comedy central show "That's my Bush" was coming out, i would see that -
