ehhh... i don't know about this. it looks typical to what Tarantino has become, which i am not a huge fan of these days, but i know many are, so it should do just fine.

I agree it does not look oscar worthy at all. For a script that he has been working on for almost a decade i was hoping it would be a world war 2 epic similar to saving private ryan, being both emotional and mindblowing. This does not look to be the quality of his other more prestigious films.
I guess i'm dissapointed because i'm still waiting for him to produce a film that will truly be oscar worthy and to see his name at the oscars again.

Everyone that has read the script says it is amzing, this is a world war 2 epic shown in a minute and a half with editing geared towards fans of previous Tarantino movies, go watch the Pulp Fiction trailer, you could never tell what was coming.

I have read the first 30 pages of the script, it is not a war epic at all...its an homage to films like The Dirty Dozen and Guns of Navarone and the original Inglorious Bastards(but no this is not a remake) plus the trailer only shows one storyline, the other concerns a jewish girl who also wants revenge and the climax cultivates in a movie theater...I've been told to expect a lot of movie tarantino type dialog in there!!!! Plus the middle chapter of the film is all filmed in french new wave style b/w...they are advertising it as a war film but its really gonna be more graphic brutality then war epic...this is also such a personal film to Tarantino as he hates genocide and mistreatment of race so much, he has stated he wants to make a film on slavery as well...plus the film is also sort of...to him his own personal masterpiece...hes trying to make a film that if he were watching it he would be like "goddamn thats the best film hes ever gonna make" the last line of the film is very very personal to him...but I think its genius...while I know others will find it forced and contrived...many people i feel think its "cool" to hate tarantino...or think that he only makes homage films...but to me every film is an homage film...the man is just so genius that he takes whats best and turns them into absolute perfection but this requires him to use things that many consider "stealing" but today every filmmaker steals...everything has been done...this film i think will blow me away...

i don't hate Tarantino, i just prefer the style of Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and even Jackie Brown much so over what he has become with Kill Bill and Grindhouse. especially Grindhouse. he is brilliant, but these days, he's just doing whatever the f he wants, which isn't a bad thing, but sometimes, i think he goes a bit extreme to make a "cool" movie. Pulp Fiction did not try hard at all, but was just about as "cool" as a movie can get.

"to him his own personal masterpiece...hes trying to make a film that if he were watching it he would be like "goddamn thats the best film hes ever gonna make" the last line of the film is very very personal to him"
wow, if he doesn't do that when he watches Pulp Fiction than this dude must have some crazy masterpieces locked in his brain.
As for the trailer, I know it's been getting criticized up and done but people should know trailers really don't do Tarantino's movies any justice...plus the teaser trailer was really just highlighting one scene, with quick snaps, no more than one second, of other scenes, and for a near three hour film that just ain't enough time. Plus, like andrew said, there's a whole other story involving the french girl that wasn't even highlighted.
After reading Andrew's comment I'm glad something personal was put into the film. You read all these QT biographies and he does have an intriguing story. As a fan I always wandered why he stays away from doing a personal film. it seems like every director is doing them these days.

Really Andrew F? You think Kill Bill is "too cool" I think its actually not the "cool" film people see it as at all but a brilliant way of him combining his favorite foreign genres. And to the poster above, actually I was reading a book on Tarantino and he said all of his films are very personal to him but only those who know him realize this...

he is brilliant and of course Kill Bill is a few notches above most crap released today, but i just would like to see Quentin return to the Oscars- that's pretty much what i was getting at. i'm sure he doesn't care about that at all, but hey, admit it, you would like to see another Pulp Fiction-esque film, wouldn't you?

I think thta people should stop raising their expectations for this movie, all you are doing is seetting yourself up to be dissapointed. And after watching that trailer thats how I feel, dissapointed. Luckily, I will be having the great fortune to see the film if and when it comes to Cannes later this year, so at least I will be able to dispell any notions before the summer.
My annual Cannes report will be at The Oscar Hut this year due to the fact that this site is an embarassment compared to what it was two years ago, Johnny should have never gotten rid of the igloo.

i'm not going to fully judge the film by its teaser. it looks great, but i don't think it will sit high on his resume. i see it being better than death proof (which i enjoyed), but just under kill bill. the "nein nein nein nein nein!" scene with hitler was great. very funny, and it definitely seems like its going to be an "an homage-paying war film with some absurdly great humor added in."
but, it is just a teaser, so i'm thinking it will turn out an amazing film. i have faith in QT.

I love how you people say you want to see Quentin Tarantino at the oscars again. The beauty of the films QT makes is that they aren't oscar worthy, but still some of the best films of the years they are released. He makes the films that fans love, not critics. His only Oscar-friendly film was with Pulp Fiction, which was his homage/reinvisioning of gangster films. Reservoir Dogs was his take on bank heist films, and has since become a cult classic. It never recieved oscar attention either. Jackie Brown was his take on blaxploitation, but then again, it was still QT doing it. Kill Bill was his version of revenge/samurai/womenploitation films. Death Proof was his take on the 70's car chase, rev-them-engines-boys films. and Inglorious Basterds is just his take on war films. Quentin Tarantino is doing nothing different from what he did in 92 and 94, its just that Pulp Fiction was embraced by the academy because of its originality, and commercial love. Pulp Fiction was a phenomonon when it came out, and the Academy recognized this. THey just eventually stopped recognizing QT after that because he kept doing his same thing, but with different genres. Until QT sells out and does a by-the-book film, he won't be seen at the oscars. And thats the way QT probably wants it. So stop complaining, this film isnt for awards. Its for you people, the fans.
