Why does anyone think Slumdog will ( should be a favorite ) to win in Cinematography, Editng and Score ? It's a decent movie, that's it. It's gonna win because it's the feel good story of the year. The little film that could. That means it's the best ? The acting was borderline bad. It's a pile on. How many people truly believe it's a great film ? Really ? It's OK, never came close to knocking me over or me thinking about it afterwards as with something like that performance Daniel Day-Lewis did to me last year where it was burned into my brain. I didn't get that from Slumdog. I truly wonder how many that claim it number one really saw it.

I pretty much agree with Dustin. I think there's going to be a suprise in the best picture category--but I have a feeling it's going to come from Benjamin Button instead of The Reader. I also think Rourke takes lead actor, though I would prefer Penn won. I can't wait for Sunday! It's going to be an exciting evening to say the least.

I'd also like to add a footnote: I'm predicting Penelope Cruz, but I wouldn't be surprised if Viola Davis won. I'd be very happy.

Agree anonymous, very overrated film but I think it really has a lot to do that people needed a feel good movie and it was just timing even though The Dark Knight was a million times more moving then Slumdog.

My Final Final Predictions

No score for this post
February 21 2009, 12:55 PM

I have finalized my predix- made a few changes after thinking about it for the past couple of days. I know i'll be pissed though if my changes end up wrong, but whatever. Here they are:

Best Picture- "Slumdog Millionaire"
(Should win: "Slumdog Millionaire")

Best Director- Danny Boyle "Slumdog Millionaire"
(Should win: Danny Boyle "Slumdog Millionaire")

Best Lead Actor- Mickey Rourke "The Wrestler"
(Should win: hmmmm... i would have to say Sean Penn "Milk"; Benicio should for "Che," but as we all know, not nominated)

Best Lead Actress- Kate Winslet "The Reader"
(Should win: Kate Winslet "The Reader")

Best Supp Actor- Heath Ledger "The Dark Knight"
(Should win: Heath, of course)

Best Supp Actress- Viola Davis "Doubt" (BS)
(Should win: Penelope Cruz "Vicky Cristina Barcelona;" i got a gut feeling, like Andrew, that it will be Davis though)

Best Original Screenplay: "Milk"
(Should win: "Milk" but "In Bruges" comes close)

Best Adapted Screenplay: "Slumdog Millionaire"
(Should win: "Slumdog Millionaire")

Best Film Editing: "The Dark Knight"
(Should win: "The Dark Knight")

Best Cinematography- "Slumdog Millionaire")
(Should win: "Slumdog Millionaire" or "The Dark Knight")

Best Original Song- "Jai Ho"- "Slumdog Millionaire"
(Should win: "O Saya" Slumdog Millionaire; am i the only one who prefers this song?)

Best Original Score- "Slumdog Millionaire"
(Should win: "Button" only good thing about the movie for me)

Best Visual Effects- "Iron Man"
(Should win: "Iron Man")

Best Sound Mixing- "The Dark Knight"
(Should win: "The Dark Knight")

Best Sound Editing- ""The Dark Knight")
(Should win: "The Dark Knight")

Best Makeup- "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button")
(Should win: "Button")

Best Art Direction- "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button")
(Should win: probably "Button")

Best Costume Design- "The Duchess"
(Should win: "The Duchess")

Best Foreign Language Film- "Waltz with Bashir"
(Should win: have not seen any)

Best Documentary- "Man on Wire"
(Should win: have not seen any)

Best Shorts- randomly picked a few; i'll admit it, i got no clue about these categories.

Counter:
"Slumdog Millionaire"- 6
"The Dark Knight"- 4 (i'm predicting a "Bourne Ultimatum" plus Supp Actor)
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"- 2
"Milk"- 1
"Doubt"- 1
"The Wrestler"- 1
"WALL-E"- 1
"The Duchess"- 1
"The Reader"- 1
"Iron Man"- 1
"Waltz with Bashir"- 1
"Man on Wire"- 1

"Frost/Nixon" will be going 0 for 5. It will be a night for "Slumdog" in the big categories and a night for "The Dark Knight" in the more technical categories.

Boyle takes the director awards as a conolation prize. Rourke takes lead actor b/c it's a great comeback story, and they love that(i.e. Ingrid Bergman). Winslet takes lead actress to end her losing streak and b/c imo her performance is the best. Ledger takes supporting actor--no doubt. Davis wins supporting actress to award the film. WALL-E, Waltz with Bashir, and Man on Wire continue their winning streaks in their respective categories.
Break down: TCCOBB- 5, Slumdog Millionaire-5, The Dark Knight-3, The Wrestler-1, The Reader-1, Doubt-1, WALL-E-1, Waltz with Bashir-1, Man on Wire-1, The Duchess-1, In Bruges-1
