I don't know if any of you were watching Important Things with Demetri Martin tonight, but he had the world premiere of Taking Woodstock's trailer on in the middle of it. I dont know if the trailer is online, but i'm telling you now, its definately one of the year's top contenders.

while I am still hopeful for the movie I am a little disappointed by the trailer. Hopefully a better one will come along, and if not we have The Boat That Rocked as the rocker movie to look forward to.

I completely agree with Andrew on this trailer. I mean, I was first of all turned off by how comedic it actually is. I thought it was going to be much more serious, coming from Ang Lee.
That being said, when I see a trailer for a comedy and I don't laugh once, then that's usually a bad sign. Although it has an amazing cast and a good concept behind it, it looks like the most it will be is summer fare.
On the other hand, I have to commend Ang Lee for growing more and more diverse with every film he makes, a task many directors have problems with.

Actually I would have casted a stronger, more experienced lead than Demetri Martin personally. Nothing against his comedic side, but he isn't a seasoned thesp, and he's supposed to carry the whole film ? He's the lead. He has one of those " I'm the same in everything I do " personalities. Dry. I could have seen Ryan Gosling or Casey Affleck in the role instead. I also don't think this will garner any Oscar nods but maybe adapted screenplay, music and possibly editing. It looks like it will be a good and enjoyable film but nothing that screams bravura cinema.
And Andrew... Woodstock was a very important concert festival, one of all time. It started what came to be festival's and huge concerts. Many huge international acts at the time performed at it. It was a very big thing that took a life of it's own, where many people of the same generation could get together and make history. Nothing anywhere close to the sort had happened previously. Or even now.

i am actually really looking forward to this film, but i never actually considered it to be a strong Oscar contender. now with this trailer, my point is proven i guess. but, i think it's just going to be another tame, "Almost Famous" type rock film. i am afraid it will not seem like a legitimate depiction; nonetheless, i am looking forward to seeing it.
