Hurt Locker vs. Green ZoneJune 17 2009 at 11:58 PM No score for this post | Andrew (no login) |
| I just saw The Hurt Locker and have also seen Green Zone thanks to a preview screening and I have to say in my opinion the latter is a vastly superior film, I thought Hurt Locker was a good movie but nothing special at all, while Green Zone is absolutely phenomenal, a lot of people have Hurt Locker on prediction lists and personally I have to say that even though Green Zone isn't exactly as Oscar movie in my opinion is is a far better film and has a much bigger chance at the awards this year. |

I was pretty pumped for Green Zone to come out ever since I heard about the book, but I think The Hurt Locker has taken a lot of steam from Green Zone. I haven't seen either but I am REALLY stoked for The Hurt Locker becuase it just looks awesome and seems to have a really good cast.
As for Green Zone, is it even coming out this year? I heard they were re-shooting and still in post-production and all sorts of rumors. Greengrass is producing an entirely new film this year so he might push it back to next year idk. But with all the buzz and massive praise The Hurt Locker has gotten I don't think Green Zone will be in the running as much and will probably get pushed back.
The Hurt Locker is turning out to be this year's "Iraq" movie and I really can't wait to see it. As for Green Zone its still up in the air as to when it will come out. |

Well I don't know why the film would be pushed back it is completed apart from the temp music we heard, and reaction to the film was almost universally positive, 22 out of the 25 people they polled at the end of the film gave it an 8-10...I have yet to hear of a release date as well but unless our screening was a fluke and others did not test positive, I think it will be coming out this year, last year we had no idea if Gran Torino was actually coming out or not then randomly a trailer hit in October. |

I agree Gran Torino was weird how it randomly came out. It was the other better Eastwood film (again) and that also ended up giving it no Oscar nominations (a real shame). I think the same will happen with Green Zone. If it actually does come out this year I think it will be sudden and not as well recieved as it should be. I think The Hurt Locker has really hurt Green Zone unless it comes out in December and we just forget about the other film.
Either way cant wait for both. But since I've actually seen some footage from The Hurt Locker Im more pumped for that than Green Zone right now. |

I haven't seen Green Zone, but I saw The Hurt Locker at The Seattle International Film Festival and I was very impressed with it. I actually felt like I was there along side those ordinance soldiers. It feels like a doc. Puts you right there. The acting doesn't seem like people reading lines. It has such a realistic look to it.
Also, what I found most refreshing it's just a story about what these soldiers daily jobs are plain and simple. There is no reach for your heart strings or some political slant or heavy message. Like I said, a lot of it felt like a doc. Even if Green Zone is as good as you say, the tone will seem more Hollywood with everyone invloved. It will have the feel and premise of a typical Hollywood movie. The Hurt Locker is not that way. | |
