Remember when at about this time last year, this very site had Revolutionary Road, the director and people in it in the top tier for much of the year. But it was depressing and the tone so dark, like strangulating and turned off many, that it only recvieved a couple Oscar nods. Don't think that The Lovely Bones could end up the very same way.

Well, The Lovely Bones is definately not as dark as RR. Sure, a young girl gets killed...but thats just the catalyst to get the real story going...its about a family healing so sure there will be grief, but it actually has a lot of humor in it, but its a mix of a lot of things, domestic drauma, existential fantasy, hitchcock suspense, plus a CGI-created Heaven will probably be cool as hell(considering its been in Weta post-prod for like a year)...but it wont be a total downer like RR...people will have tears in their eyes by the end...but they'll be tears of joy.

I'm sure Lovely Bones will be more satisfying. RR was just pure ass.

I'd say that pure ass comment is up for interpretation. While yes, RR was depressing and bleak, the movie was amazing during Shannon's scenes, he really brought the film to life. also, Leo and Kate did phenominal jobs, its just a shame that the movie surrounding them didnt live up to their performances.

I can see where the op is saying. Everyone thought RR was going to get all these Oscar nominations and it basically tanked. I hear the parts where or include the Tucci character can be pretty depressing and everyone mourning a little girl that gets raped and brutally murdered. That's deppressing as well. I hope Jackson throws curve balls at us and it's isn't a big downer film. Speaking of a downer film, how do you think The Road will fare ?
