The movie this year you were most surprised that you actually liked...

Hey all, I ask this because every once in a while you come across a movie you have zero expectations for, and it ends up wowing you. For me, this was The Time Traveler's Wife (my review will be up next week when Clayton gets back from vacation, along with my District 9 review and a bunch more, perhaps even one of Tarantino's latest, if all goes according to plan), a movie that had a trailer I liked, but awful review. And yet, I absolutely loved it.

So my pick would be The Time Traveler's Wife...what would yours be?

Mine would be the Hangover. I didn't love it nearly as much as most but I hated the trailer and ended up actually liking the film.

Fair pick, aside from The Time Traveler's Wife, the only ones I can also think of are The Last House on the Left and My Sister's Keeper, though TTW is far better than those...

(500) Days of Summer was very good. despite great reviews, i was not sure of it going into the theater, but i thought it was a very good film.
on the other side, i thought i would like Funny People, but i ended up not being a huge fan of the film.

Just got back from TTW Joey I sort of agree with you on your facebook post I thought it was just as good as District 9...I wouldn't put it on a "films you didn't expect to like" because I LOVED the trailer and when bad reviews started pouring in my hopes went down a bit but I still expected a good film which I got...plus McAdams is amazing in everything...I love her...

None really come to mind. The closest I can think of in that case is Orphan. I thought I would absolutely hated it, but I only hated it...

It had about 2 decent scenes that made me just hate it. Sadly, the two decent scenes I liked were virtually ruined by the thrown together twist.

Drag Me to Hell, for me. I'm not the biggest Raimi fan, and horror isn't my favorite genre either. But I was amazed at how well that movie delivered on the laughs and the manipulative scares, and I mean that in a good way. A very nice surprise.

I've learned to not trust trailers...I can make an Uwe Boll movie look good with a well cut trailer, but even my highest expectations for TTW didn't equal out to what I saw...it's currently in my top 10 of the year.

Well I mean naturally I dont trust trailers...look at Pearl Harbor but its hard not to be excited for a film with an amazing premise and trailer...

True enough...TTW had a decent enough weekend, so I guess the reviews weren't a great hindrance to people, though I don't think it's going to have quite the staying power of something like The Notebook, even though it's just as good.
