So what does this mean for the ten slots for best picture? I think the competition lies between Nine and The Lovely Bones and it'll give room for an indie hit to push though. Maybe the Hurt Locker or 500 Days of Summer. We'll see. What do you think?

the race is about to change very very significantly. look out for sam rockwell in moon for actor in a leading role, i get this weird feeling he's gonna win some major critics awards, best picture doesnt change too much bcus its such a wide field, best director just opened up a bit

It's still too early to really know who's in, but of the films already out, things like The Hurt Locker, (500) Days of Summer, Up, Star Trek, The Cove, and perhaps still Funny People (I know nobody really agrees with me on that one, but until precursors come through, I'm not going to really exclude anything).
