I thought that Tarantino's latest is probably the most entertaining film of the year (I still haven't seen Star Trek). The only complaint I have is that I really wanted to know the basterds, and the bar shootout went much too fast. Christoph Waltz is hands down the frontrunner of the Supporting Actor category. Did anyone see the teaser for Inception? From what I heard, the teaser was supposed to premiere with Inglourious Basterds, yet it was never shown.

Loved Basterds, best film of the year no question and in my top 3 of the decade. I thought the bar shootout was genius and the quickness of it brilliant. Yea I saw the Inception teaser if you want a description its...
From Christopher Nolan: The Director of the The Dark Knight
Shot of Leo
"Your mind, is the scene of the crime"
Couple more shots of Leo
Incredible shots of JGL fighting some guy but not any fight scene like the camera is tilted and their fighting on the walls and ceiling as well as the floor.
Thats all it was, really short but amazing

And just to add, Christoph Waltz..never heard of the guy before this but wow..dude came out of left field. Such a multi-layered, complex performance that I'm not quite sure other actors could have pulled off. I can't imagine the Academy giving him the win for this, even if he were to be the best of the year, but damnit is he a worthy contender. Also Melanie Laurent, superb. EVERYONE in this movie had some serious acting ability which leads me to believe this movie is more then just a fun romp. Realistically, this could be a contender at the Oscars. Will it be? Hell no, perhaps one measly supporting actor nomination...but it should be a contender. I felt this way with Kill Bill Vol 2 as well and I knew the Academy would stick it. I'll be seeing this one again very, very soon.

I couldn't agree more Tony, such an incredible film, Waltz, Laurent, Kruger, Pitt and Fassbender all deserve nods, sadly no one is talking about Fassbender's brilliant, gut wrenching performance. Seeing it for the 3rd time tonight, can't wait!

I thought he movie is Tarantino's third best. The movie takes you on a ride from beginning to end. Anyone who says there is too much dialogue has ADD. The dialogue sets up everything.
I also thought the Hans Landa charatcer sort of reminded me of Daniel Plainview, as he is a despicible character yet charismatic which forces you to pay attention to him, even if you despise him. Waltz is a supporting actor lock !

Christopher Waltz was the only thing I enjoyed about this. Laurent and Kruger are also good, but thats where my love for the film ends. Tarantino tries to hard to make an epic and forgets to make a point about the film. And the marketing for this movie makes it out to be a "action" movie, which isn't even its main focus. I was disappointed -- loved Waltz -- but was disappointed.

I also wouldn't criticize the film for having a misguided trailer. Plus, I mean, did you really go in there expecting an all out action romp? This is Tarantino we're talking about here. Kill Bill Vol 1 is his only film where the action exceeds everything else and that was because it was a homage to the classic kung-fu action flicks.
Basterds is just pure Tarantino, plain and simple. And I'll even be honest with you guys, my expectations were not high on this. When I saw the trailer for the first time I was highly disappointed. Now it's my favorite film of the year.

I absolutely loved this movie. I love how it takes the two seprate storylines and throws them together at the very end. To me this is just a brilliantly told story. If you haven't seen it don't read further, but I am really fond of how the Basterds ultimately ended World War II. Thanks Tarantino for doing that even though there are people who point out that is not historically accurate. Really? No crap. But, who cares? It was awesome.
Brad Pitt really surprised me in this. He is funny as hell. In the trailer he looked kinda goofy, but that's just how the character is or how Pitt plays him. I actually like Pitt's performance better than Waltz, but I am in the minority on that. I'm not a big Brad Pitt fan at all btw.
Overall this is the best movie I have seen in some time. I sure hope it gets it due recognition.

While I don't agree that Pitt was better then Waltz I do think he was phenomenal in the film as well and also deserves recognition. As for Tony, I see what your saying but they had to market it this way or theres no way it would have made the money it did(and desperately needed to make)

I wasn't degrading the movie solely based on the trailer, I just thought it would be better -- to me -- it dragged on without any real purpose making me wonder for what reason it was made(probably money/Q is a "respected" director) -- Tarantino has already done the female revenge story as well as a tale of macho killing men -- Basterds felt recycled -- the dialogue didn't feel like traditional Tarantino and when it was on point it was too little too late -- to me, and many other disgruntled movie goers I saw rush out -- it was just average and I only expect the Oscars to give Waltz a nomination.
