Okay im not saying the reader was better then the wrestler,

but i saw it and thought it was really good

and it didnt deserve the harsh criticism it got and in my mind the best pic nomination wasnt that crazy of a nomination.

The Reader was the second best movie nominated for best picture behind slumdog millionaire. Kate Winslet was perfect in her role and the rest of the cast was able to work off of her perfection. The Reader was no fluke, it was the real deal.

For what my opinion is worth, I found it rather mediocre outside of Winslet's role, but it's pretty much a dead issue now.

Well, comparatively speaking it was a fluke when looking at the reviews. But that doesn't mean it's a bad film and it doesn't mean it can't be on anyone's top 5 list.

Any movie can be on anyone's top 5 or top 10 or top however list...my own top 10's on the Main Page certainly don't exclude movies that plenty of people would not agree with...such is the nature of film and preference.

Exactly. My point being you can still love the film but from an Academy perspective, it can still be a fluke in that way. For example, I have Frailty in my top 5 for 2001. If Frailty had been nominated for best picture at the Oscars, it would have been considered a fluke.

eh, the reader was decent. nothing more. kate winslet was good but in no way deserved that oscar. i don't have this movie in my top 5 or 10 but that's just me. oh....and in no way was it better than the wrestler (best movie of 2008 right there my man).

kate winslet should have won the oscar for revolutionary road not the reader, and that movie should have been nominated for best pic as well and decaprio for best actor , the reader only got in because of the push of some powerful heads in the academy, and the weinstein's etc

The Reader got nominated because of the deaths of Anthony Minghella and Sidney Pollack, Academy-Award winning filmmakers and producers of the film.

The Academy nominated the producers of the film in the Best Picture category and decided to honor Minghella and Pollack one last time by nominating them in this category.

revolutionary road did not suck, and the acting was superb 100 times better then the reader was in every way, it was sheer politics why rev road did not get love, but nothing the academy does shocks me they get it wrong 50% of the time,

Didn't think the acting was special in RR except for Shannon who stole the show. I don't know, a lot just seemed a bit overkill with overacting which is very uncharacteristic of Winslett. She was definitely better in The Reader.

I disagree completely. In my opinion Leo and Winslet were both phenomenal in Rev Road particularly Winslet who I think won for the wrong movie. I love Brad Pitt and think he is an incredibly underrated actor but he stole Leo's nod for Actor he should have gotten his for Supp for Burn.

Leonardo DiCaprio deserved to be nominated for Revolutionary Road. What an astounding performance!

The Reader had excellent acting too though, David Kross and Lena Olin deserved nominations as Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress in my opinion.

I would have personally given Kate Winslet the Oscar for Revolutionary Road but she was also great in The Reader.

I thought Leonardo DiCaprio was amazing in Revolutionary Road and its odd how he got almost no recognition what so ever. I suppose it was simply Kate's year.

He easily deserved it over Richard Jenkins and Brad Pitt (both of those performances were fine but Leo was much better).

*the sex comments need to come to an end, and the jew comment from the poster above was also unnecessary.*
