It sounds weird, but Touchstone is pushing for her, and the Oscar talk is not fake. Trust me, there are her supporters out there, and if you ask me, it would be a nice inspired nom. happy.gif

Here's their first ad for White.

PS:

If you get the urge to push this possiblility to the side, remember these performances...

Robert Downey Jr. - Tropic Thunder
Joan Cusack - In and Out
Jack Palance - City Slickers

Comedic performances in non-Oscar studio comedies. happy.gif

Add White in the veteran actress category and we could possibly (see: *possibly*) have another Jack Palance victory on our hands.

The difference is that those films had good critical word in addition to the box office...The Proposal was rather soundly rejected critically (44% on Rotten Tomatoes as opposed to 82% for Tropic Thunder, 70% for In & Out, and 88% for City Slickers)

Well first of all the supporting actress race would have to be incredibly weak for this to happen, and its really not looking to be a weak year. The only real way I could see this happening is if all of the ladies from Nine have some sort of vote split and cancel all of each other out opening the race up for a really weak race. But I don't see that happening. Either way, its really early to say this and I am hopeful I am not jinxing her, but I really think Mo'Nique has this one in the bag. Now that Meryl appears to be pushed in the lead race, I think we are going to see Academy Award Winner/Reality TV Star Mo'Nique! LOL. If White did get this it would obviously be a career nod. I do love the woman though, I think I have seen every episode of The Golden Girls 50 times.

She wasn't even like..."good" in it. That movie was bomb and I don't mean that in a good way.

Then again, I just watched Big Bully and thought Tom Arnold gave an underrated good performance. Not to get off topic but that movie is pretty disturbing. Probably the hardest PG rating I've ever seen.

Yeah, I in no way really think she deserves the nomination, but even through the film's negative reviews there have been special scene-stealer shout-outs to her. I think, if you look at it, Touchstone isn't campaigning for the film itself, but for Betty and I can name about 5 performances (supporting category) that have made it even through their films' negative reception (Brenda Vaccaro, anyone?)

While it's not a solid, I think its a good to think about it as a possibility. It definitely makes sense if it could become what one would call a "career nod". It just depends on the campaign, if you ask me, and seeing as the studio is jumping to it... well... you never know. Haha.

I would love to see Betty White recieve a nomination one day...but definitely not for this movie.

She basically played the routine crazy grandma role that she's been doing for the past couple of years now.
Plus the Indian Chief scene was just embarrassing.

I'd want her to get nominated for a small but effective role. Something that has substance and shows a completely different side of her talent.

I think its great that the studio even thinks she has a chance at the nomination (which they must do otherwise they wouldn't be trying at all for the nomination).

There's no reason for a studio not to back an actor who they believe gave a solid performance even though the movie tanked.
This sort of thing should be more common.

I remember when I first saw the FYC ad for Robert Downey Jr. I remember wondering if it was all a joke due to the fact the character was an academy award winner, or because they truly thought he deserved it. It can't hurt an Actors chances, and it obviously helped his.

Betty White is smokin'.
She looks great in a bathing suit, but i heard she has a serious case of herpes.
Although i'd still be tempted, herpes or no herpes

I would not compare her performance to Jack Palance, Joan Cusack, Robert Downey Jr, or even the great Anne Ramsay in Throw Momma From the Train, even though those were all films that were not widely panned by the critics, they were all deserving of their nominations. Betty White does not in any way deserve this nomination and I would be seriously pissed if they picked her. The academy has snubbed so many deserving comedic performances (Catherine O'Hara for anything she has ever done.) It would be disgraceful if they picked her.

I really enjoyed her performance in this film. It's not a performance that will go down as legendary, but she was a scene-stealer. Her "heart attack" scene was one of the best in the film. I'd be very pleased if she received a nod.

I know this board is basically dead, but I must say... I never came up with this. This ad was created by Touchstone. I'm not wanting White to be nominated personally, but I see it as a possibility.
