What's up with the website

by

I haven't been able to reach the website on tripod for the better part of two months, suddenly I was able to reach it today and found the archives not updated. What's going on, is Nevermore over? Or has the site moved and you forgot to tell Big Panda?

OK... i was going to kill the strip, hoping to sneak out like a thief in the night... sigh...

but, due to all the email i have received, i am going to start it over again.

Its going to be once again a different format, because i dont have the time to do a daily strip.. =( so its going to be a longer (read full page or so) strip, and on a weekly basis...

anyways, the official announcement will be on the main page in a day or two...

sorry to keep you all waiting..

The lettering looks awesome, Kheldar... I actually think it fits well. I also think that the word bubbles worked out fine. You get one vote for keeping it this way. :-)

And you know what would be cool... if the footnotes brought up a little tiny window that just floats over the main page. I think it would be a lot less obtrusive. Also, the reader could read the footnotes as well as the comic, simultaneously.

That's enough oughtta me. :-)

Possible bug?

by Juno

Ok, sometimes I'm at school and I have this class where we have...er...free time, and I was trying to read some of my favorite webcomics. I tried to read Nevermore, but this thing happened and the background began taking over the screen and the computer froze. I tried again after rebooting, and it happened again! The other sites I went to were fine, and it was OK when I used my home computer, a Windows one. (the school has Macs) I only tried it that one time (I didn't try other days because I didn't want to crash the school's network server or anything), so the bug (if you know about it) might be OK now. But I just wanted to know if it was OK and if you knew anything about it. Has anyone else seen this problem?
Ok, this may be confusing, but I've tried explaining it the best I can....

I know of one thing that sometimes blows up on my machine, the javascripts at the bottom (big panda and the web counter) tend to time out if there is no connection to the internet and kill both my netscape and msie.... when im not connected to the net....

otherwise i dont know of any problem. Maybe you have javascript turned off and the tripod banner thingy doesn't like it...

let me know if you still have problems and ill pop up a no java version to see if that is the case.....

the bug

by

Perhaps it is a mac thing? I have a mac at home and I pointed out the b/g bug before in Avalon. So I think that maybe somehow it is a mac thing. Which is annoying, but oh well. BTW, I'm painfully writing this message because the message forum bg is still a 1x1 pixel. And I almost went back to Avalon's forum to type this..... instead I think I'll hit respond and go to bed. Fortunately the bg doesn't crash my computer, just forces me to watch it redraw the screen p a i n s t a k i n g l y s l o w l y . . . . . . . . . . . .

What the heck is going on?!?! <g> I love the comic, even though I'm utterly lost, I still think it's great. Although, mayhap you could write a paragraph or so background on, um, everything? *baffeled look of innocent confusion* The character bios helped quite a bit but I'm still confuzzeled. Annywho... er.. background.... quickly... may spoil your oppinion of me...

by

WOW!!! a reader who loves my comic!!! im touched, honestly... =)

well a quick background....

The story is based loosely on an RPG campaign that i ran a few years ago, which was based partly on Werewolf: the apocolypse and Vampire: the masqerade. I changed it alot though, and in the comic, im trying not to associate any of the stuff from the OFICIAL game, because i changed alot of it.

lets see....

Alison, is a werewolf, in wolf form she is a red wolf. yes, such a thing does exist, and no they are not related to foxes, any more then any other wolf. Richard is an ex-police officer, who left the force. (that part of the story is explained in chapter three... soon)

Stefan is a vampire, and high priest of the goddes of death (the lady with the bright light behind her) The goddess of death is not an evil being, just one of justice and changes... err... like the thing in princess mononoke... sort of... less life giving though....

So quickly now, the world we live in is called the godless lands, and has no gods of its own. It is linked to another existance called Nevermore which is full of gods and magic and fantastic creatures. One of the gods (er... chaotic type) found the godless lands and travelled to the forbidden place. He has very little power there, and needs to build a following to become a godlike god. Tagart (god of nature and werebeings) sent in the werewolves and other fantastic creatures to fight Lasi (las-EYE, one of the gods of chaos). BUT.... the werewolves are pack animals, and fight amongst each other, and start the kin-wars (about 1800ad) and this almost kills them all off. Some small groups sheltered in northern canada managed to survive, and are now continuing their fight.

Thats about as much as i can give you without ruining the story. Alot of what i have planned is based on whats going on. and some of the secrets everyone has. If you guys have questions, thats what the forum is for... =)

I have a page with a bit more information on it that im working on... sort of... it need serious re-writing which describes some of the background stuff in more detail. Ill get that section up as soon as possible.

btw: the guy in the chair at the end of chapter 1, is not Lasi.... and that thing that alison has is a klaive, its a magic weapon of the werewolves, a short sword, with a spirit bound to it. Usualy a war spirit, but not in this case... (cue dramatic music)

I hope i haven't spoiled everything for you guys.. =)

Your new floormat

by

I like the new comic format. It does allow for a lot more detail.

One thing that really stands out in your comic (to me anyway) is the use of camera angles. I especially notice how you always view the interior of a car from the back seat... and you occasionally use those "Citizen Kane" upward-angle shots (the ones I can't figure out how to achieve in my comic...).

The only unfortunate thing about the car scenes is you can rarely tell who's in the front seats. :-)

Also, the new format allows for larger (and more readable) lettering. Yay! ;-)

Okay, that's enough outta me...
JOSH.

i keep thinking about that comment about doors and hitting people.....

by

I hoped it would be obvious that Alison was driving.. she is the only one with hair like that.

Anyways, as far as the back seat goes, its just the first thing that occured to me, that and i dont know a hell of a lot about cars. (it shows in tomorrows strip, which will go online on time)
I more or less made up the car. Guns i can do part for part, but i couldn't even tell you what shape a car is supposed to be.

I can only think of one "up the nose" shot that i have used so far. and it didn't turn out too well..

I suppose its a big complement, considering that was one of the few complaints you made a few weeks ago when i started the story... =)

As far as back seats go, the first was mearly realism, where else are you going to put an unconcious body.... lalala.... not that i think about that too much these days.

hehehe... im honored that you still read this comic regularly... (er... i think...) feel free to make any comments you like, i always take other peoples oppinons to heart. I may not like or act on them, but i listen the same.. =)

Um, does Tripod allow cgi-bins? If so, I could let you use my perl scripts. Mind you, I wrote them specifically to create the output you see on Avalon. And I'll be writing new ones for the site rehaul anyway.

If you want a Javascript solution, talk to Maritza Campos of College Roomies from Hell. She uses Tripod, too.

laziness, its what keeps me from doing more fan art for all my favorite comics...

i know, its a prerwquisite for writing perl, but i just havn't gotten arround to it yet. I used to have a whole website which was run by a perl script and some database stuff.... all nice and configurable online and all... but i lost the script a few months ago.

so now i just steal nifty javascripts from other peoples pages.. hehe... hmmm.... 8 has some neat things on his archives... hmmmm..... =)

sorry sorry sorry...... etc...

by

Opps....

If its not one thing its another. First i have no computer to do the scanning of the comics, then i have no win98 CD to add the dial up networking features to windows (i was on cable modem, through a firewall/fileserver) and then no internet provider!!!

Thankfully i dug up a CD for one of those free ISP things, and other then the somewhat annoying banner, it works.

Currently im beating my skull onto the web with an old 33.6, and all i can say is im glad i designed the site with low bandwidth users in mind. Anyways, the next big problem wont come up for a few months now, and that will be when i switch hosts. Likely in about 8 months or so at the current rate. I hope.

Anyways, thanks for the loyalty and ill be back to daily updates for now...

Interesting name that Kheldar guy has

by

Could be that there is yet another David Eddings fan in this wide, lonely world, or is it just a cooincidence ?

In case it is a cooincidence, Kheldar is the name of arguably the greatest smartass/hero/saver of all known existence/thief/spy/assassin/ ever to grace the realm of contemporary fantasy. (David Edding's Belgariad and Mallorean)

This and that.

by Bo

Hi,

Found your strip through Panda.
I like what I've seen so far, it certainly has the potential to be one of my favourite comic strips.

I'm not an artist of any kind so I wont comment on your drawing, other than to say that it seems good to me. But I would like to make a few suggestions on other parts.

The text (conversation) can be a bit hard to read some times, you might want to make it a bit more distinctive or maybe slightly larger.

Also you should seriously consider putting in an archives page. You haven't drawn many strips yet, so it's not really that hard to click your way back to the beginning, but that will change when you've put in a few more strips. The sooner you do it, the better. It will help new readers and you will save some time. It's easier to use a few more seconds now, adding another link on a archive page whenever you add another strip, than it will be making an archive page when you have a lot more strips. A button on the main page that links to the very first strip would also be nice.

Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to reading more.

Sincerely, Bo.

Im working on it.. the prelude strips were drawn quite small (each frame is about 2 inches wide) so it made my naturaly bad hand writing that much worse....

The new strips are much bigger original, so the art and the script should be much better...

thanks for reading

Yes, I also think that this looks like a good strip...though it'll be easier to tell when you get more comics up (this strip is really new, I know). And I also like the art.
