from Evening Standard, 30 March 2006:

Beauticians are the happiest at work

Making people look good is a feelgood job, according to the City & Guilds Happiness Index, which is topped this year by beauticians. The beauty professionals questioned seemed to enjoy their careers more than anyone else and awarded their jobs 9.2 out of 10 on average. Meeting different people and being made to feel appreciated were both qualities that made them happy with their roles. IT specialists, civil servants and lawyers all rated their happiness at work at less than 7.5 out of 10.

Half all workers want a new job

MORE than half of working Britons wish they had chosen a different career, according to research by a Government-funded career advice line. The poll showed 58 per cent regret their first career, while 16 per cent had already changed careers three times. Workers in the banking, insurance, finance and travel and leisure sectors are the most likely to be dissatisfied.
