Letter to Evening Standard, published November 27th 2006:

WiFi is destroying my life, too

TELECOMMUNICATIONS expert Chris Guy is dismissive of Kate Figes, who deduces she was made ill by wireless internet connections in her home (23 November). I, too, can't visit buildings containing WiFi connections without experiencing nausea, headaches, loss of physical sensation and forgetfulness.

I have been diagnosed with electrical sensitivity (ES) and am working to compile a database of case studies. The condition is a well-known, accepted social disability in Sweden where some 300,000 people have been diagnosed. California is also advanced in its acceptance of ES.

ES severely impacts on individual freedom and the ability to earn a living. I have put my business on hold for 18 months, my home has been lined with foil-backed wallpaper and my windows covered with silver radiation-proof fabric. The UK's non-ionising electromagnetic radiation is the world's highest, yet we have no health advisory guidelines.

This country must recognise that there is a growing problem and ensure adequate medical advice is made available.

Sarah Dacre, Whetstone.

From London Lite, July 16th 2007:

Call to suspend classroom wi-fi

COUNCILLORS want to halt wi-fi use in classrooms until parents have been consulted over health fears. Wi-fi uses similar radiation to mobile phones to connect to the internet. The Professional Association of Teachers welcomed the move by Haringey.

BT Group is attempting to create the world’s largest wi-fi network by persuading millions of UK customers to turn their home wireless “hubs” into public hotspots.

The move could create blanket urban wi-fi coverage, and allow the fixed-line operator to compete at least partially with mobile phone operators in offering internet services on the go.

“It is a potentially disruptive move. BT may see this as an opportunity to get into the mobile market through the back door,” said Ben Wood, analyst at CCS Insight....

The Effects of 884 MHz GSM Wireless Communication Signals on Self-reported Symptom and Sleep (EEG)- An Experimental Provocation Study

Bengt B. Arnetz, Torbjorn Akerstedt, Lena Hillert, Arne Lowden, Niels Kuster, and Clairy Wiholm

....The study indicates that during laboratory exposure to 884 MHz wireless signals, components of sleep, believed to be important for recovery from daily wear and tear, are adversely affected. Moreover, participants that otherwise have no self-reported symptoms related to mobile phone use, appear to have more headaches during actual radiofrequency exposure as compared to sham exposure. However, subjects were not able to detect the true exposure status more often than would have been expected by statistical chance alone....

People Are Dangerously Ignorant Of Electronic Radiation

Ted Twietmeyer

...How many cell phone and Blue Tooth users must DIE before people wake up and a safety standard is established? Don't hold your breath waiting cell phone corporations are very powerful and they will make certain no such standard will ever be established. Period. And don't lie to yourself by counting on Uncle to protect you. If the government can't protect itself how can it protect us from anything? Perhaps it doesn't want to protect you, in the name of population control.

Risk factors for cancer and tumors caused by radiation sources are directly proportional to exposure levels and accumulated dosage, or time. Localized HEATING of brain tissue near cell and cordless phone antennas is a well documented fact. If you have used any form of wireless telephone for any length of time and felt warmth or a throbbing in the side of your head, that can be the cause of it...
